Re: Cesar Millan - Dog behaviour
Dogs in some cities run in packs but it is not
as prevalent as it used to be, but depending
on where a town is, country dogs will meet up.
A group of dogs who have gone into business for
themselves is usually more dangerous than a
single or pair of dogs.
We live in a remote area and our dogs are
let out at 8 and have a large roaming area.
Its woods or country for the most part and
anyone in the surrounding area they would
come in contact with, know who they are.
Most likely our pit bull is as sweet as she is
due to the programming you are suggesting. She
is very very sweet and has only acted aggressive
when there has been a dog fight with neighbor
dogs, and of course, she *killed* the kite.
Still, of all the dogs I have ever been around,
she is different and I would not trust her.
She is also not a snuggly dog at all even in
spite of massage and we never raise our voice
or try to scare her. This is not to say that I
am afraid of her either. I just recognize that,
from my experience, I know she processes info
differently. Sometimes she gets frozen with
fear and you can see that she cannot decide if
it is safe. She was born in the wild though and
it is unknown if her mother was feral and this
also could contribute to her distrust.
Give me another year though and I will have
won her over...ggg.
I have not read the book you suggested but
did read a book where you used visual imagery
to connect with a dog. It worked on my therapy
dog since she and I were so connected. I would
do experiments and hide a carrot which was
something she loved finding. I would visualize
each step of the path to the carrot and she
could do it. At first she would second guess
her impressions but once they were reinforced
with finding the carrot, she thought is was
a good game. At first though she could only
get through a step or two and you could see
her thinking, why am I here??
Good luck with training your baby not to catch
hedgehogs~!
blessings,
Zoe
