Re: Hands are killing me
Hang in there, I KNOW how much it hurts! I can get gout attacks - in my case, it's always in my right great toe.
What has helped the most:
** Drinking FRESH (not bottled) lemon in hot water - sweetened with agave juice (looks like honey in a bottle - is low glycemic and tastes great). During an attack, I'll drink as much as 10 cups a day. It balances the system and makes you less acidic.
** Using a hot pack with castor oil. Get some flannel, soak it with castor oil and put it in a ceramic (NOT PLASTIC!!) bowl and heat it in the microwave to a warm temp. Wrap your hands with it and then place a plastic bag over the flannel, covering your hands. Place a heating pad over the plastic bag. There are heating pads made specifically for hands which look like big mittens - great help! Do this as much as you can when you are hurting, nightly to prevent reoccurance.
** Eat figs (as the previous poster told you) RAW (not roasted) almonds. These are very good for acid conditions such as gout, arthritis. I don't like figs, but I consider them the best 'medicine' I can take.
** Drink UNSWEETENED cherry juice. Being diabetic, you can only tolerate a little at a time, but it helps. If you can't do the juice, you can get cherry capsules which will not impact your blood sugar.
** Try Moreless' detox baths. I like the one which uses 1 pound of
Epsom Salts , 1 pound box of baking soda and one
quart of hydrogen peroxide. IT HELPS! Get the water as hot as you can stand it and stay in for 20 minutes. You don't need to be in it longer than that. You will sweat! Take a cool shower after to rinse of the bath water and to cool the body.
** Try some of the detox pads - I use the Takara ones. These drew the acidic poison out of me very well. Of course, you use them on the feet, so mine were closer to the affected area. I think they would help hands, but maybe not as dramatically.
Good luck - I know how much pain you are in.
