Re: Day 12

Hi, I understand your anxiety about giving yourself an enema and your concern is completely understandable. I like your idea of after your fast is over to have a professionally administered colonic. This is always an excellent idea after a fast.

I work with a naturopathic doctor and do the colonics, and he also prescribes enemas for a number of his patients who I attend to. If they are not familiar or comfortable with giving themselves an enema, I do it and teach them how to go about it at home.

Before you schedule a colonic for yourself do some research. There are 2 major type colonic systems used, one known as open, and the other known as closed. I use and recommend the closed variety. With a closed system, purified water is gently introduced into your colon under low pressure, and when you feel full the therapist switches to outflow and you release through a lighted observation tube in the colonic machine that is connected directly to the plumbing system. Thus there is no odor or splashing of waste as with an open systems colonic.

Speak with the therapist at length before scheduling an appointment to make sure you feel comfortable with her. Ask lots of questions! Don't hold back - a good therapist will encourage your to share your concerns and be willing to take the time to address them. It's also a very good idea to visit the studio or office where the colonics are performed so you can meet the therapist in person and observe the facilities. If everything is not orderly and super clean, then find someone else.

Finally, you mention you don't want to undergo the pain on an enema, but let me assure you that a properly administered enema seldom has any pain associated with it. When some pain occurs it is usually with a client who is extremely constipated or is suffering from a fecal impaction. For someone fasting, this is almost never a concern.

For a moderately constipated person, an enema administered in a healthcare setting can result in some uncomfortable fullness. But when you are giving yourself an enema you control that by limiting how much water you take, and eliminate before it becomes too uncomfortable. You can then start over, at which time you have eliminated much of the waste matter leaving more room in your colon for the water to wash out the waste higher. You are in control, and you can let the water in as fast or as slowly as you prefer.

In summary, enemas don't have to be uncomfortable and can actually leave you feeling relaxed and refreshed, and colonics are a wonderful whenever you can have them!

All my best wishes for your natural health,

Valerie
