I have at least a dozen Black-Walnut trees on my few acres of mountain top property. I have gathered walnuts, hulled them, cracked them, shelled them, sold them, and occasionally even eaten them. I do not believe they contain true iodine. It true the hulls will stain the hands brown, but the hulls contain juglone and tannins and both of those can stain. Frankly, I believe the idea of getting plant Iodine from walnut trees in a myth, largely advanced by people wanting to make a quick profit by deceiving people. That's a shame because juglone is an effective anthelmintic and also helps tone the colon. Walnut hulls do make a good herbal supplement, but not as a source of iodine.
