Beautiful

I've seen so many people get all squirmy about "higher power," particularly in support programs like AA, Alanon, OA, etc.

For me, that "squirmy feeling" is an indication of my control issues: a reminder that I am not in control and that it's perfectly OKAY to hand off some of that control to someone/something that might (or, might not) exist.

For me, I'm not so arrogant to make myself believe that my species of human beings can be the Only Beings of Higher Intellegence out there in the great, vast Universe. Just looking at the spectacular and mind-boggling images from the Hubble Telescope says to me that it's a great big place, out there, and I am humbled each time I see a star, a deer, a bird, an infant, a blood cell, or a sunflower - there is something greater than me, my species, or the collective beliefs of my species. That belief gets me through each day. Tweet
