The studies in Japan show through analysis that the chemicals do become neutralized of the odors including some that are present in TMAU like methylamines and indoles.  I had symptoms of TMAU but tested negative for it.  Odor Cleanse works for me, after having done some cleanses the year before.  It probably helped to clear some stuff out first.
