here is the deal people acupuncture has not and so far has not been able to be studied under the scrutiny and rigors of the scientific method... it just has not happened yet.
Researchers have racked their brain trying to figure out how to do it from sham needles to using different points(which by the way even if you use an off point for a particular condition you are still manipulating QI). It has a scientific yet very esoteric nature which is why there are different styles of Acupuncture from Japanese to 5 element to 8 principles TCM, and that makes it darn near impossible to study.

My advice to you ...try it
it works great for many things other than pain
