Depression in married couples: Causes, symptoms, treatment
Depression is a mental state which can have negative impact on both the partners in a marriage. In India, many people are diagnosed with Depression each year. Surprisingly, number of women is more than men when it comes to diagnosis of depression. Dealing with Depression becomes extremely difficult, when one is married. Not only does it affect the person but also other family members.
People suffering from depression often feel isolated and have difficulty approaching for help. Being in a marriage where one partner suffers from depression can be somewhat confusing for the other. The non-depressed partner may feel agitated or frustrated by others' behavioural changes. Depression can have a bad effect on marriage with an increase in marital unhappiness which can lead to poor married life.
It is sometimes difficult to distinguish between common marital problems and depression. What looks like a marriage problem may be a sign of depression. Marriages in which one partner has untreated depression will definitely have an increase in marital agony. When depression dominates marriage there is an absence of feelings, love and intimacy.
Becoming knowledgeable about depression and treatments is important for any couple suffering from the sickness. Depression can be classified into three categories:
Major Depression: A blend of symptoms that prevents from work, sleep, enjoying activities and maintain relationships for a particular time frame. Generally, major depression is a one-time happening but often experienced occasionally throughout lifetime.
Dysthymia: Also known as neurotic or chronic depression, it lasts more than two years.
Bi-polar disorder: Described as manic-depressive illness, it leads to severe highs, lows and cycling mood changes.
Males and females show different signs of depression. They are: Depression in Men- Fatigue, Irritability, Loss of interest in activities, Sleep disturbances, Additional risk due to drug and alcohol abuse. Depression in Women- Sadness, Feelings of Guilt and Worthlessness, Hormonal Post-partum Depression, Hormonal Premenstrual syndrome, Additional risk due to Transitional Menopause.
Causes of depression in Married couples
There are different causes of depression. There is enough scientific evidence to support that depression is caused by an imbalance in brain chemistry that affects the functionality of neurotransmitters. Psychiatrists have found insufficient levels of serotonin and norepinephrine in patients suffering from depression. Trauma, loss of a loved one or other negative occurrences along with genetic predisposition has been associated with the signs of depression. Many mental health practitioners are of the belief that childhood loss may be a reason behind depression in adults.
Treatment of depression in Married couple
Common treatments of depression are psychotherapy and anti-depressant medications. Anti-depressants like effexor, celexa, Zoloft and Prozac can be effective but with uncomfortable side-effects. Medication can restore the balance in neurotransmitters. Conventional treatment such as herbal remedies and acupuncture are also beneficial.
Depression is an illness that can wreak havoc on a marriage. Couples can communicate better to overcome the odds of depression. A number of resources are available for couples to trounce depression in their marital relationship. A couple can work together to save their marriage from the ill-effects of depression.-

Ovarian cyst, menstruation problems
hello,
I have been diagnosed with an ovarian cysts. The physician put me on hormonal pills but so far I didn't take them. I read a lot about kelp and I got some (organic kelp powder from Starwest Botanicals). It doesn't taste too good but I mix it in my morning smoothie with fruit/vegetable juice and wheat and barley powder, but not sure how much should I use it yet. Right now I'm taking 1/4 of teaspoon every morning. On the internet I read a lot about Iodine toxicity if you take it too much. I drink only one small cup of coffee in the morning, and no more coffee during the day, just a cup of green tea in the evening. I have heavy bleeding during my period and spotting during few days before period as well some spotting during ovulation. I'm 38 years old mother of 2 children. I have done tubal ligation 3 years ago. I also got diagnosed with a very low hypothyroism. That was my main reason to try kelp, but while looking for a dosage I found this forum, so I hope the kelp can help my other health problems too. I don't think that tubal ligation is the reason for all my problems as even before I have it done I had problems with my periods, moods and cysts. Are there any herbal products I can take to bring my hormones to normal? I couldn't take any birth control pill as to high blood pressure, I used IUD for 2 years but didn't like it. I must say that for some reason after I got my tubes tied my blood pressure came back to normal. I also have a low hypothyroid. Thanks in advance for any help.

Taking kelp is a step in the right direction. Make sure that it is certifiably free of heavy metal contamination. You are quite Iodine deficient and 1/4 tsp of kelp won't have enough of the Iodine that you'll need to become Iodine saturated.
The iodine toxicity that you've found mentioned on the 'net is really nothing more than bromide detox symptoms. I have safely taken more than 100mg of iodine/iodide for a couple of years now with no ill affects. Iodine will resolve your menstrual and ovarian cyst problems, without a doubt. There are many, many testimonies of to that effect on the Iodine Supplementation board here on Curezone. You should read every post, starting from the beginning.

I recommend that you get some iodoral and start supplementing with that. One tablet is 12.5 mg of iodine and potassium iodide. Iodoral is a lot easier way to get iodine than trying to take enough kelp. One teaspoon of kelp only contains 1.9mg of iodine.

Miserable since my TL
I had my TL back in 2005 and have not been myself and have been miserable ever since. I never knew or had heard anything about PTLS, didn't even know what it was until just the last couple years. I was told by the doctor that performed mine that it could not be reversed. I have had almost every single symptom of PTLS and after recently having been testing for everything I was able to rule out that I had anything else wrong with me. I know I have PTLS. I have a very unsupportive partner that is insensitive and he keeps insisting that it's all in my head. I talked to a place in NC called Chapel Hill Tubal Reversal Center and they said they can reverse almost every TL. Is there anything I can do to help with the PTLS symptoms in the meantime? Please help, desperate here!-

It is very clear that doctors do not warn patients of the possible side effects associated with tubal ligation. There are many women who wish they had known about PTLS before even considering the ligation to begin with.
Chapel Hill Tubal Reversal Center surgeons are able to repair the fallopian tubes in 98% of all cases. There are of course ligations where the tubes are not repairable due to the damage done.
The fact of the matter is there are more than a handful of women that suffer with this syndrome BUT are also getting relief with tubal reversal surgery. I wish I had some type of remedy for you in the meantime but I have not found or heard of anything that works. What are you doing in the meantime? If you are having cramps maybe a heating pad? I know it's not much but it does help.
The best thing you can do while waiting to have your surgery is communicate with those that have been through this and have had the surgery. Educate yourself as much as possible on the facts and be your own advocate. It is your body and you know how you feel.
As far as your partner not being supportive..maybe show him how others have experienced the same situation? On the CHTRC website there are women who have faced the same thing and actually tell their stories. All of these women have taken the stand and want others to know the battle they too had to face.
In the meantime stay strong and I hope you can get this resolved as soon as possible! I have included a link to another womans story if you would like to read it.

Hi all,
I just wanted to come in and tell you about the horrible experience I had with my TL.
I was 23 years old with 3 kids and I said there is no way that I am going to want anymore kids. Well on January 4,1993 I decided to have my tubes tied and that was the worst mistake of my life! I had the worst mood swings in my life,the worst periods and what sadness I felt over time about my decision! I was almost never happy ,snappy at people...I had become a monster that was out of control.
Finally in 1995 I met my husband who was so sweet to me.He helped me in so many ways,but it still was not enough to compete with my "issue".He seemed to understand me and was very patient with me .I could not understand why he wanted to be with me because I was so mean to him. Well,he only had one son to my 3 kids and we talked about having kids.I told him that my tubes were tied and that I could not have kids,he understood ,so we just stopped talking about it.
I started to feel bad until a friend told me about Tubal Reversals.I could not believe it,I had finally found the answer to not only being able to have kids again,but reversing a mistake I had made.
Well,still after about 3 years of surfing the TUBAL REVERSAL MESSAGE BOARD" I read all the stories of the women who said that immediately afterwards,they were relieved !
I could not believe it.So I wanted to go for it,I did and I no longer suffer with stomach pain,horrifying cramps and demonic mood swings! I am my old self again and I can have the baby with my husband that we always wanted!

I went full term and they were big babies and I am tiny ... after that I said I wanted my tubes tied because I knew I could not handle another pregnancy after them and I was 35 years old and did not want anymore children ... anyways, here I am two years later and my stomach and digestion are SHOT which I never had before ... I have NO sex drive whatsoever, I get hot flashes, night sweats and am very moody ... I am thinking of a tubal reversal but am told that only certain doctors know how to do it the right way to repair the damage ... I was wondering if anyone knew of a doctor in or near New Jersey that does the reversals the right way ... if so please advise ... and I am so happy that you are feeling better and that you can now have a baby again ... babies are truly a blessing ... good luck :)-

well, i am not sold that it has to be done a right way to repair damage. i don't know if there is always damage to repair or that can be repaired. i know one dr who pushes that and charges $20 to $25,000 for reversal. please stay away from her, because she is only after money and not playing with a full deck. because she is out to lunch, it's hard to get real answers from drs you can trust. most drs do not believe in PTLS. one day women will march in the streets about this, i hope.
i have heard sometimes tubals kill messenger cells and they cannot send a signal to release eggs andymore. i don't think that can be repaired, don't know. some women get adhesions or endo, but regular reversal drs already know to look for stuff like that and they will remove it during the surgery is what i was always told when i researched clinics.

thanks, this gives hope to all those who ask the question will tubal reversal get rid of PTLS symptoms. it did for me, but only 3 months, so i am not the best advocate for it. but i believe women have to start with reversal to begin recovery. i am hoping they find something wrong, like my tubes are closed or something. that would explain why i went back into menopause in 3 months after the reversal.

this is exactly what i have gone through twice now. it is so hard to explain to people. they just think you are a bad person in general. i finally had to take hormones. i take so much it bloats me and puts on weight. yeah, good idea these tubal ligations, makes you never want sex again!

I also regret my tubal ligation, because of the terrible effects of it on my health. At the time i had mine done i was married to an abusive man, depressed, and did not want to have any more kids with him. I got remarried to a very understanding, sweet man who strives to put God and family first. I never knew i would ever be with a good man like him but i am so thankful.
Since my tubal ligation i have had more PMS, night sweats, heavier periods, etc.... I wish my doctor back then would have told me about this. My Tubal ligation surgery lasted much longer than it should have, he somehow managed to cut my cervix and i was in exscruciating pain afterwards. He used clips so maybe it would'nt be so hard to reverse.
I have also had weight gain that i didn't have before. My surgery was done laproscopically and they told me it was a simple surgery but after having the problems i've had i know it is not always a simple surgery. I'm thinking seriously about getting it reversed so i can have relief. Also my ex husband made my two prenancies very hard and that was suppose to be a happy time; i feel like he robbed me of that. Our children are healthy so i am thankful for that.

hi i am 25 years old and have 2 children so i decided to go and get my tubes tied last month. well everything went well and i seeemed fine for the first week or two besides being alittle sore...but in the past week i have been experiencing so weird things! so the other day i was in the shower and had been noticing that i have been losing alot more hair than normal while washing??? but i just blew it off then over the next couple days i kept noticing the amount was so great that i am needing to empty the drain after every use ( which i do not normally do! i am really bad about it!) so sometimes i would go a week w/o doing it, so i have been becoming really concerned! and on top of that i have been so nauseous to the point i have to hold back from throwing up! and my heartburn and indigestion have gotten almost unbearable! i have been having some mood swings and have had no much of a sexual desire...so i started researching about getting a tubal done...then i came across ptls and am wondering if maybe thats what is going on with me??? how should i go about addressing this with my ob? i mean from what i read alot of doctors don't think it exists...i am in need of some opions and input so i can decide what to do. thanks for your time.

You have every right to be concerned with what your are experiencing. It sounds like you are experiencing PTLS. I have lived with PTLS for 13years now and each year is worse than the year before. I has totaly changed my life i am nothing like i used to be. I have 3 children and all 3 of my children are teenagers now it took years before i was able to put all my symptoms togeather i know something was going on but at the time i never related any of my symptoms to PTLS i started noticing something was wrong right after i was released from the hospital with my son my body did not feel the same as before. there are a total of 54 symptoms related to PTLS and i have 47 out of 54 over the years i have been in and out of the hospital numerous times. i have had to have 2 cardiac caths already been put on two different types of bp meds fluid meds nitro for the chest pains and rapid heart rate i have had to have my gull bladder removed my apendix removed numerous non cancerous tummers from my abdomen two carpel tunnel surgerys GI medications and nothing helped have spent numerous amounts of money at the dentist, and trips to ob/gyn and have had numerous blood tests done pelvic exams and have had every test you can imagine i even had to go in to have my right overy removed due to endomertiosis and cysts i dont sleep at night i am moody amd irritable all the time i get alot of Depression have been dignosed with IBS and DJD (degenerative Joint Disease ) earily stages of ostioprosis I have to Have both knees replaced my hormone tests have came back showing an imbalance i have joint pain all over my body all the time my periods are horriable and very very painful and heavy more than they ever were i am tired and extreamly fatigued all the time my skin drys out i have alot of difficulty concentrating any more stay bloated alot get extreamly bad headaches i have alot of anxity which they gave me med for i have a low sex drive anymore i too have the hair loss my nails stay so brittle anymore i have alot of problems with dizziness and i have even developed allergies, menstrual anemia, i ahve alot of fluid retention and and pre-menopausal and they thought i had Breast Cancer so i had to see a specialist for that and there was no cancer but said i had fibrocystic breast syndrome that occurs in pre menopausal women i have literly seen every doctor out there for everything just because i was not explained to when i signed that releas form to get my tubes tied that all this could happen. thats why i said it gets worse every year it has my body and my health going in a downward spirial and if i dont do something now i will not be around to see my kids graduate so dont let them doctors tell you there nothing wrong with you when you know it is just because PTLS has not been reconized as a medical disorder does not mean that it isn't this is just one more thing that women will have to join togeather and fight for like we have always had to do. I dont mean to scare you but the pain ,symptoms, all that you have read about PTLS is very real and alot of doctors want to put you on prozac and brush it off as hormones and send you out the door like you are crazy or its all in your head but it isn't and the sad part about all of this is im only 35years old and my body feels like this already. so finally i got to the point i researched what i was feeling and i came across PTLS and was shocked to read what i was reading so i printed everything i could find along with blogs and forums from other women that were experiencing the same as i was and i went to my ob/gyn and never even made an app. i just walked in his office and threw the papers down on the desk and tol him NOW TELL ME IM CRAZY and i said im not leaving this office till you tell me how we are going to fix this, and i didnt leave till he handed me a scriipt it was a referal to another doctor that does the sterilization reversal i go on feb 10 2011 to get everything started to reverse what they did when they tied my tubes its going to cost me dearly because the insurance does not want to cover it so i will pay for it up front and fight it out with them later but the reversal is suposta reverse some of what im feeling if not totaly take it away.And i strongly believe that tubal sterilization is the main cause of Breast Cancer in women because the hormone balance has been disrupted when ligation takes place. In 2007 40,598 women died in the united states from Breast Cancer and 202,964 women were diagnosed with breast cancer in 2006 11,982 women were diagnodes with cervical cancer and most of them were younger than 45 years old 2.4 women out of 100,000 died from cervical cancer and overian cancer for 2010 was 21,880 women diagnosed and 13,850 died of overian cancer and those are some pretty scarry numbers so please pass the word around to everyone you know about PTLS because it is real and i know i do not want my daughter to go through what i have i just cant wait to have my surgery done so hopefully i will start to feel better and feel like i have my life back best of luck and dont give up. YOU HAVE A VOICE LET IT BE HEARD FOR ALL WOMEN!!!!!!!!!!
