Pedophile Upset Police Posted His Picture Online

ARLINGTON, Wash. (Crime Library) — A self-professed pedophile who caused a media sensation over his now-defunct "how to" web site on ogling little girls has found a new forum for his essays.

Jack McClellan, 45, has been contributing to the "GirlChat" board on another pedophile web site, seeking advice about possibly starting up a new site and how to deal with threats he has received after all the media attention.

McClellan ran his own web site, "Seattle-Tacoma-Everett Girl Love," until March 28 when a reporter from a local newspaper in Western Washington ran a story about him. Fox News jumped on the story and interviewed McClellan, providing a face to the anger parents felt over having photos displayed of their children on his site. The pictures were taken by McClellan at public events like parades and festivals.

Since then, an anti-McClellan web site has been launched at www.JackMcClellan.com that includes a blog where angry parents have been posting tirades.

"Since the Fox News hysteria aired several weeks ago, I've seen numerous threats of violence toward me on the Internet — but they were all from relatively anonymous bloggers, posters and callers — and probably most were just hot air and not worth tracking down," McClellan wrote on the GirlChat board to an anonymous sympathizer. That person urged McClellan to document everything and go to the police with anything substantial.

Neighbors in McClellan's Seattle-area home town of Arlington have been busy. One person had distributed flyers to mailboxes and newspaper boxes that "contain the false accusation that I approached some girls in the neighborhood at a slumber party," McClellan wrote.

Others have "reportedly gotten a judge to issue some sort of a restraining order stating that I'm not to be walking by their houses anymore," he wrote, adding that he was supposed to personally receive a copy of it from a sex crimes detective.

The sympathizer then suggested that McClellan post a surveillance camera in his neighborhood to document the activities of anyone passing out fliers in mailboxes.

"A visit from the postal inspectors should straighten out her crooked ways," the sympathizer wrote.

 But the colleague stopped short of condoning McClellan's picture-posting habits when he mulled over the possibility of a new web site.

McClellan wrote: "At a minimum, the more provocative pics (with just the backsides of one or two girls) will not be returning — but given the outcry and anger I've experienced in the past month, I'm thinking that posting photos of any girls does more harm than good to our cause of GL acceptance."

In response, the sympathizer added: "Honestly dude, and I mean this straight: I think you photographing anybody, except celebrities, and posting them on your web site is creepy. If I found my own picture on a web site, say buying some cotton candy at a fair, I would be pissed...Don't paint yourself as a parasite."

To that, McClellan announced that he had been out "GL-event hopping" and saw "oodles and oodles of cute LGs." He posted a rating of three Seattle area fairs.

The chat ended with the colleague telling McClellan that he looked like the character of Jack Bauer, who is played by Kiefer Sutherland on the hit TV show "24."

Detectives with the Snohomish County Sheriff's Department say they are aware of McClellan's activities, but can't arrest him because he hasn't done anything illegal. However, he has had restraining orders issued against him in the past, including one for an elementary school, said sheriff's spokeswoman Rebecca Hover.

(CBS) LOS ANGELES Jack McClellan says he is on the run from parents in another state. McClellan claims to be a pedophile.

"It isn't really just a sexual thing, its really the whole ambiance of about being around children that I enjoy," McClellan says.

He is not afraid to tell people how he feels about little girls. If asked point blank whether he is a pedophile, he says yes.

But he is terrified to show his face – he has received death threats because he took pictures of little girls in the Seattle area and posted them on his website, Little Girl Love.

Before he left Washington state, the site was shut down. Having moved down south – in his car in Venice Beach – McClellan has brought the site back with a Southern California focus.

McClellan talks to CBS 2 and KCAL 9's Stacey Butler on why he continues to maintain the site and his own pedophilia.

The report, which aired earlier this week, has already stirred reaction from Southern California's law enforcement officers and lawmakers.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department found the report deeply disturbing and are taking a look at McClellan -- but they have not yet launched an official investigation.

Assemblywoman Sharon Runner (R-Lancaster) issued this statement:

"This sick individual disturbs me greatly, as a mother, grandmother, and a legislator. Families should be allowed to safely enjoy parks and other community activities without perverts gawking at their children and rating them on the Internet."

"Our government has a responsibility to protect California's children. Even if this man claims he has not violated the law, he has placed a target on the backs of these children and left them vulnerable to the countless child-rapists lurking on the Internet."

July 27 -- An admitted pedophile from Washington State who reportedly photographs young girls in public settings has been spotted in Santa Monica, according to police.

Jack J. McClellan, 45, was observed at 2:30 p.m. Thursday in the children’s section of the Santa Monica Main Library by a mother.

A public information bulletin issued by local police on Thursday describes McClellan as a “notorious pedophile advocate” and asks parents to closely monitor their children in his presence. “McClellan is not a registered sexual offender and is not wanted at this time in connection with any crime,” according to the bulletin. McClellan, who is 6’ 1” and weighs 195 pounds, drives a Blue 1993 Ford Escort two-door with Washington license plate 915WEX, police said.

“McClellan has recently been featured in national and local news reports in which he admits operating an Internet website catering to pedophiles,” police said.

“It is reported that McClellan traveled all over Washington State and photographed young girls in public settings,” the bulletin states. “In the news reports McClellan admits being a pedophile who is sexually attracted to young girls.”

McClellan was recently spotted in the Santa Clarita Valley, where he was the subject of a story Monday in The Signal, a newspaper that serves the valley area. (read story)

According to the report, McClellan posts pictures of the girls accompanied by accounts of his search for subjects.

“On June 9, according to his posting on the Internet, he scouted youngsters at Santa Clarita Lanes bowling alley on Soledad Canyon Road,” wrote Jim Holt, a staff writer for The Signal.

“When he left the bowling alley on his own, McClellan, 45, crossed the street to Saugus Speedway and joined scores of families roaming the grounds at the San Fernando Valley Fair, according to his Internet posting,” Holt wrote.

“With children darting from ride to ride, eating cotton candy, petting zebras and playing games of chance, McClellan strolled the grounds anonymously,” wrote Holt. “Most likely, parents would not have recognized the man in his characteristic black wide-brim hat.

“But they probably would have recognized pictures of their own daughters, photographed by McClellan in public places and posted on his Web site,” according to the news story.

McClellan’s Web site, Seattle Tacoma Everett Girl Love, was shut down by its Internet service provider, according to Washington State officials quoted in the report.

He has since started another site, according to the article.

The Web site, according to Fox News in Seattle, "iis a virtual 'how-to' manual, complete with the best places in western Washington state to see little girls, and tips on how to avoid getting caught by the police."

McClellan says he left Washington and headed south to the Los Angeles area "to get away from media reports and the resulting angry moms," according to a report on Seattle's KOMO-TV web site

McClellan is the subject of more than 150 entries on the Internet, inclusing news reports and at least one Website that tracks his wanderings and posts alerts.

Those who see McClellan should closely monitor any children in his presence, police said.

Those who see him in an area frequented by children should notify the local police department.

If you have children, keep them away from this man Lindsay Ashford pedophile. Ashford likes girls between the ages of 7 and 11 and he thinks it's okay to have an intimate relationship with these young girls. Ashford asserts that many children and adolescents are capable of being informed consenting partners in romantic relationships, and that such relationships can be based on mutual romantic and emotional, not necessarily sexual, connections. Self-proclaimed pedophile Jack McClellan plans to return to Santa Clarita but not anytime soon.

"I will be back there one day," he told The Signal in a phone interview Monday. "But, I want to assure everyone that I'm not going to do anything crazy."

McClellan, who was responding to a July 23 story in The Signal on his visit last month to Santa Clarita, wanted to set the record straight.

"I enjoy being around kids, but I've never touched them," he said, and added he's only rarely talked to them, and doesn't ever try to talk to them.

"I do find the pre-pubescent girls attractive. They're my prime attraction," he said. "I do think women are attractive but, given a choice, I prefer them younger."

McClellan visited Santa Clarita on only one day, June 9, attending a bowling alley and the San Fernando Valley Fair.

He says he won't be back to the area for a while because it's just simply too hot - literally, not figuratively, he said.

"The air conditioner on my car doesn't work so I've been hanging out on the coast," he said.

But, being a high-profile character these days, granting newspaper, television and radio interviews, McClellan, 45, has trouble keeping a low profile.

On June 24, he attended the Summer of Love 7th Annual Summer Soulstice Festival in Santa Monica, sporting his characteristic black wide-brim hat that he wears due to a sensitivity to the sun.

"I went to that festival, and a woman recognized me. She started yelling 'We know who you are. We know who you are. Get out of California.' No one else did anything so I turned up a side street," he said.

McClellan said he also attended the Orange County Fair a couple of times last month, adding he enjoys more than just watching little girls, taking in attractions such as motorcycle jumps and comedians.

When asked if he would return to Santa Clarita, he said: "Well, the fair is there every year, right?"

McClellan, although he repeatedly admits to being a pedophile, has not been charged with a crime.

Lieutenant Tom Bryski with the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Station, declined Monday to comment on McClellan and referred inquiries to Lt. Darren Harris. The Signal is still waiting to speak with Harris.

McClellan suffers from depression that was diagnosed as a disability, he said, and receives a disability check from the government as a result.

He plans to use the money to set up a Web site, similar to his previous online efforts that featured photographs of little girls and advice on where to find them.

What bothers him most these days is having paid a web-hosting service in the Netherlands $80 for a yearly membership only to experience problems with launching the site.

He said other pedophiles recommended he contact the Dutch web hosts if he wanted to open up a Web site promoting his infatuation with little girls.

McClellan is threatening to go public with what he knows about the site if he doesn't get what he says he paid for.

"I don't know if they're trying to screw me but if I don't get my Web site going or if I don't get my $80 back, which is a fortune to me, I'm going to go public about them," he said.

Ron Tebo, who has denounced McClellan recently in The Signal, the New York Times and on CBS TV, and who has created an anti-Jack Web site to divert pedophiles away from McClellan, is disappointed to hear Jack plans to open yet another site about little girls.

"I think it's disgusting," Tebo said on the phone Monday, adding he was on his way to do an interview with TV talk show interviewer Larry King.

"It's unacceptable. Let him continue to live in his car," Tebo said about McClellan. "I'd like to see him somewhere else completely, like on an island."

McClellan said he read the New York Times article this past weekend about Tebo's efforts to denounce him.

"I thought it was fair. I didn't have any problems with it," he said, adding the only issue he took with The Signal article was the implication that he spent more than one day in Santa Clarita.

When asked what kind of car he was driving, he declined to say.

McClellan was set to move into an inexpensive Los Angeles apartment in Koreatown but another prospective tenant scooped it up. He's been living in the Santa Monica and Venice area, stopping at motels once a month to shower.

Although he moved to California from Washington state in the past few months, McClellan grew up in Southern California, he said, in a "usual family" that often visited Disneyland and Knott's Berry Farm.

"You have Magic Mountain up there in Santa Clarita, right? I don't know if that kind of thing appeals to me. It's more for teens," he said, adding he prefers to watch little girls at Disneyland and Knott's Berry Farm.

When asked what he actually does when he watches little girls at family events such as fairs, he said: "I enjoy the anarchy of children, the playfulness of children, their attitude toward life. They're more light-hearted, clownish.

"I don't think back to my own family when I go to these events. I feel light-headed when I'm there," adding that he's attended hundreds of family events involving children. "When I'm there, I'm on cloud nine. It's like a drug."

When it was suggested that his comments about children and his sensitivity to sun were reminiscent of Michael Jackson, he laughed and said: "I was inspired by Michael Jackson. I remember when he shocked everyone when he said he, a 45-year-old, liked sleeping with boys; I thought it (public reaction) was kind of crazy."

Meanwhile, McClellan continues to sleep in his car, parked in places where he's unlikely to be ticketed.

"I know I'm being watched like a hawk," he said.

SAN JOSE, Calif. - A man prosecutors said was one of the nation’s most prolific child molesters was sentenced Monday to 152 years in prison for abusing two 12-year-old boys.

Dean Arthur Schwartzmiller, 65, who also had been convicted of sexual assaults in several states over three decades, was sentenced to the maximum term on 11 felony counts of child molestation and one misdemeanor charge of child pornography possession.

Schwartzmiller represented himself during his trial last year but asked for an attorney to represent him during the sentencing phase.

During the nearly three-week trial, prosecutor Steve Fein showed jurors a map of the “places and decades where the defendant has molested young boys.” It included an estimated 100 accusers dating to 1969 in eight U.S. states, Mexico and Brazil.

When Schwartzmiller was arrested in June 2005, investigators found a memoir describing abuse, binders full of child pornography and 1,500 notebook pages with headings including “blond boys,” “no, but yes boys,” and “best of the best, 13 and under.”

Schwartzmiller, who acted as his own attorney during his October trial, told jurors that he was innocent and maligned by a society that doesn’t accept men who love boys.

During his testimony, Schwartzmiller said the memoir and notebook entries were fiction.

He blamed roommate Frederick Everts — also a convicted child molester — for the child porn. Schwartzmiller also said he could not have molested the two San Jose boys, who are cousins, because he was either at a construction job or bedridden with a bad back at the time.

Although police say Schwartzmiller appears to have spent much of the past three decades years in California, he has also been arrested on child molestation charges in New York, Idaho, Oregon, Arkansas and Washington. He has lived in Nevada, Texas and Washington.

Schwartzmiller has used aliases including Dean Harmon and Dean Miller, authorities said. He apparently gained the trust of victims and parents by working as a home renovation contractor. He didn’t register as a sex offender so he did not appear in the “Megan’s Law” databases in California or other states, police said.

Police said Schwartzmiller befriended the two San Jose boys with gifts, invited them to his house for video games and movies, and molested them.

Judge Edward Lee said that despite Schwartzmiller’s legal savvy in getting some previous charges dismissed, he will spend the rest of his days filing appeals from a prison cell.

“For all that above-average intelligence and charm, I have a couple of faults (with you) — an English teacher might call them tragic faults,” Lee said. “You have no empathy for your victims; that’s not particularly unusual. And you cannot see yourself as others see you.”
