Your comments are apropos.
While I would praise and thank these doctors and their collective work, it is hard to really know what machine is behind them. One always has to ask why? Unfortunately the why, even here, is most often profit and/or recognition/power motivated. With the conferences and public speaking engagements, more will come to know. It is ramping up.
Keep close tabs on the Federal Register and law changes as it applies to Iodine and available sources. Keep an eye on patents and patent introduction as Iodine availability fades.
This will most likely play out over years...
We could watch the whole thing as it is played and understand it better from the front row.
I pray and hope I am wrong... after going through the patents, paying attention to this whole thing, and it having been played out before with a once available supplement or two the writing seems to be on the wall.
All they need to wipe out Iodine from public access is a few very public injuries or deaths (they could manipulate the public exposure and even conjure up the injuries/deaths) as happened with L-Tryptophan years ago, which has since come back on the market as the whole thing was exposed as a sham to introduce prozac.
You know as well as I do that you choose... one or the other, pharmedico or the way God intended. Mixing and matching seems to cause more issues than not. MH would tell you that, so would others.- Re: Dr. Jarvis and David Brownstein,... trapper/kcmo

the reasons for high doses of strong Iodine are created by modern life.
also, because of how dependent we are even for someone to mix the Lugols for us(i have done it myself and its easier than baking or even bartending), it would be nothing to slip something into the strange and strong taate of Lugols without us even knowing it.
this is the saving grace of iodoral, imho. at least is in the double digit range of cost instead of quadruple, which is what pharm shoots for.

Abraham's used Ghent (now deceased) and Eskin's work. This article says papers publihed in Russia may have lead Ghent and Eskin to start investigating iodine. There is an iodine based drug available in Russia for fibrocystic breasts.
Looks like 50mgs of iodine for fibrocystic breast disease has a history starting with the work of Russian researchers.

Russian researchers first showed, in 1966, that iodine effectively relieves signs and symptoms of fibrocystic breast disease. Vishniakova and Murav’eva treated 167 women suffering from fibrocystic disease with 50 mg KI during the intermenstrual period and obtained a beneficial healing effect in 71 percent (it is reference 49 here).

Then Ghent and coworkers, in a study published in the Canadian Journal of Surgery in 1993, likewise found that iodine relieves signs and symptoms of fibrocystic breast disease in 70 percent of their patients. This report is a composite of three clinical studies, two case series done in Canada in 696 women treated with various types of iodine, and one in Seattle. The Seattle study, done at the Virginia Mason Clinic, is a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial of 56 women designed to compare 3–5 mg of elemental iodine (I2) to a placebo (an aqueous mixture of brown vegetable dye with quinine). Investigators followed the women for six months and tracked subjective and objective changes in their fibrocystic disease.

Dr. Guy Abraham, a former professor of obstetrics and gynecology at UCLA, mounted what he calls "The Iodine Project" in 1997 after he read the Ghent paper on iodine for fibrocystic disease. He had his company, Optimox Corp., make Iodoral, the tablet form of Lugol’s solution, and he engaged two family practice physicians, Dr. Jorge Flechas (in 2000) in North Carolina and Dr. David Brownstein (in 2003) in Michigan to carry out clinical studies with it.

I understand and have read all of that; I think back in January of this year... if you read through the pharma Iodine patents, you will also find the Ghent papers referenced; only in those patented after the papers were published. Other references go back to 1896...
Beatson, G. T.--On the Treatment of Inoperable Cases of Carcinoma of the Mamma: Suggestions for a New Method of Treatment with Illustrative Cases, Lancet 2, 1896, pp. 162-165.
The doctors are without doubt moving the information out into the mainstream, While that is a good thing, in light of some recent law changes, and the number of patents held by big pharma, I question their motives; whether the motives are known or unknown to them (they could be pawns). While they and others may see themselves as pioneering, they are not... this information was apparently well known before they were born and well before the Ghent papers. Perhaps the Ghent papers and studies are part of the play out as well...
Create a market; conditions that increase fibrocystic breasts, cancers, provide the remedy/cure/managed care, make a buck.
If you read through some of these patents, you will see references to the following information:
The second and final nail in the Iodine coffin was hammered in by Dr. Wolff in 1969. (5) By 1969, Wolff had moved to the National Institute of Health from UC Berkley. Wolff arbitrarily defined four levels of "iodine excess." The first level of excess started with intake above 0.2 mg/day, and Iodide intake of 2 mg or more was considered "excessive and potentially harmful." In the next issue of this journal, this author discusses the Wolff-Chaikoff effect and presents evidence that the data reported in the rats by Wolff and Chaikoff (3) did not justify the interpretation of these data as applied to rats. Even worse, extrapolation of these findings to human subjects by Wolff (5) was inappropriate, and unscientific. By the 1970s, physicians concluded that one must avoid inorganic, non-radioactive Iodine like leprosy, unless it was incorporated into the toxic, organic iodine-containing drugs. Then iodine could be tolerated because iodine could be blamed for the toxicity of these drugs.
This is the iodophobia that has been discussed before... and sets the stage for the validation of, and market for, pharma "managed" care... NOT cure. I heard it discussed that a reporter writing the story of what happened to Iodine would read like a good detective novel......like "The Fluoride Deception."

Also, somehow I found that the case histories were too "rosy"; apparently his patients didn't seem to have had any problems with detox and that's not what I see here or at the Yahoo group, it has seemed to me that almost everyone who had pre-existing health issues tends to feel detox symptoms sooner or later, many like me rather early on. Either Dr. B. is downplaying this part of the therapy OR some people here are really overdoing it and possibly harming themselves
. I just wish he'd said more about that because I'd like to know for sure what is not a symptom of detox as I've noticed here that 99.9% of the times anyone writes about feeling something wrong someone say's "It's a detox symptom". With some rather unusual symptoms I have to wonder how in the world they can feel so sure since, that I know of, most people here are NOT under medical supervision and, therefore, are not having their own bood and urine analyzed.As for this being his "cash-cow" I don't know, but I do wonder too because, for instance, the home page of his website appears pretty much just like any commercial site. And when I received the books I ordered, a couple of leaflets to promote his other books and (costly,,,) DVDs were included (but I will have to pass on that since I don't expect them to be any better than the ones I got). Were it not for the fact that I can pass these books on to relatives who know nothing/little about the aforementioned subjects I would've considered my $35 a waste as that money would've been better used as payment for several of my "companion" supplements.
I don't want to give the impression that I don't believe that he is doing valuable work right now . I just hope that he doesn't fall into the temptation of being led by the wrong motivation. I've observed how several other doctors who appeared to start out "right" end up charging exorbitant amounts to see any new patients and some very soon abandon their practice to keep writing more books and do the "lecturing circuit" for 'mucho dinero'. Perhaps one can hardly blame them but it sure is disappointing.
Ah, and In the Iodine book he mentions that Dr. Flechas owns the lab that performs the iodine loading tests so it appears he is also making money out of this. Again, I just hope that no matter what he'll remain faithful to their original goal of really helping people rather than get carried away with the temptation to profit beyond reason from this.
And while we're on the subject, does anyone know who owns Optimox (makers of Iodoral)?

I am sorry you did not enjoy Dr. Brownstein's books. I devoured all of them in short order. I will admit the the thryoid book was the least favorite of mine but probably because I have been living with thyroid issues for 7 1/2 years and have read a lot prior to this. I think his intent was to help the new thyroid patient with basic information - not the advanced one as many of us are. I would bet if you contacted them and expressed your disappointment they would offer some remedy.
Speaking from direct knowledge of Dr. Brownstein, you will not find a more compassionate and passionate man. He has a heart for helping his patients to get well - not to line his pockets. He has not charged me for many of his services to me and my family. He has worked hard to find a solution for me. He has become a true friend as well. He does research a ton of information - I know because I help him find it.
As for the motivation behind iodine. The story behind how it all started was that Dr. Brownstein saw information written by Dr. Abraham in the Townsend Letters. He was discussing iodine and how it was low in the midwest. It intrigued Dr. B so he contacted Dr. Abraham and they began a synergistic relationship that Dr. Flechas joined as well. Dr. Abraham was at that time the only one testing iodine levels using the loading test. As the concept grew, he offered both Dr. Flechas and Dr. Brownstein the opportunity to open labs. Dr. Brownstein said it was tempting because of the amount of money that could be made but when he and his wife discussed it they decided that if he was making money off of the testing that they would run the risk of minimizing the message. Since he was committed to the message and not the money he declined the offer to have a lab. And the rest is history.
Optimox is owned by Dr. Abraham. It is a research and nutritional supplement company that he started after retiring and beginning his research in Iodine among other things. Dr. Abraham has the highest level of integrity as well. I am currently in his clinical study for Iodine and Thyroid Cancer. I have had 3 rounds of RAI over 5 years and still have Tg present. Through testing they have determined that my NIS have been destroyed and my cells are not organifying and oxidizing the iodine I am taking in. Dr. B & Dr. A created a special nutritional supplement through a compouding pharamcy that I am taking in an attempt to repair these items.
Dr. Brownstein does base his iodine knowledge in part on the work of others. Why re-invent the wheel. I am sure that you will find the sitings of this info in the references section of his iodine book as well. His practice has literally worked with thousands of patients in orthoiodosupplementation. They are taking it beyond the "old school" of thought and megadosing. I have taken up to 75 mgs per day.
Yes I am a big fan of Dr. Brownstein. This man saved me from further suffering through radiation. My endo wanted to ship me off for more. I am now healing with natural therapies. He has given me my life back and my children a mom.

This is a reply to # 931,960Thanks Stephanie for taking the time to set my mind at ease about "Dr. B", I "know" who you are from the Yahoo group and I also know your story so I respect and value your opinion. As a matter of fact, I want to take this opportunity to let you know that I was very impressed by your blog. I meant to write you to let you know about it and that I was praying for you and your family but I can't remember what got in the way then and then I couldn't go back because my history had been erased and I had not bookmarked the site and I also noticed you stopped including the link in your signature.
So, with everyone's permission I'll take this opportunity to give you my comments. First, let me tell you that for the most part I've always avoided blogs, however, for some reason I felt compelled to read yours and, boy, it was an emotional trip and a half! I found it at a rather inconvenient time for me because I should've been going to bed and ended up staying up straight through that day because I couldn't stop reading. Since your account of your orthodox treatment ordeal filled me with so much frustration and sadness (it made me cry and want to wring some doctors necks, lol!!!) I just "had to" keep reading to get to the "good part", which, of course, was when you found Dr. B and I really, really loved that part so I have no trouble believing what you say about him and it's a great relief as my first impression of all three doctors has been one of pure admiration. It's just that when you reach my age you've already gone through a few disappointments so it's easy for doubt to creep in but I think what I should really do is to keep praying that God will continue to guide these men in their mission.
My disappointment is not worth complaining to them about and, as I mentioned before, the books won't go to waste. As you say, those of us who like to take charge of our health problems do end up learning a lot more than others and that has always been me. When I was first dx'd with hypothyroidism (7 years ago as a matter of fact), the first thing I did was go to the public library and check out 3 books and that lead me to request treatment that included T3. I also joined a thyroid forum which is also a very good way to learn fast due to the constant exchange of information, so in the years that followed I devoted countless hours reading other books and everything I could find online. Part of my disappointment was due to my having stretched myself financially at the moment to buy them BUT as I mentioned in my previous message I've already found a use for them.
As I write this, my mother who lives in another country (where I was born), is probably still bedridden as the consequence of radiation (after chemo...) for her metastasized b/c, an ordeal that began early in '04 with a mastectomy. She wants to see me so I'll probably be traveling there in 2 weeks. As I was madly struggling to try to apply for a passport, I learned that my favorite female cousin (who lives there too) had been diagnosed with thyroid papillary carcinoma. She had her thyroid removed last week and I just shook my head in frustration. She's suffered from depression/mood swings and PCOS, which over the years lead to ovarian cysts removal (on more than one occasion), a breast reduction and even a histerectomy 3 years ago; also diabetes, hypertension and some brain disorder before she even hit 40. Even though the rest of my family has been having more serious health problems than I have, they do not have the inclination nor the capacity to understand things that come easily to me so I feel it's up to me to teach them what I've learned and these books will provide "official" credibility to what I will have to say. I will also go "armed" with a 16 oz. bottle of Lugol's and a bunch of supplements so I can get all those interested started on iodine. I think after 5 cases of cancer in the family and already 2 deaths from it they're terrified enough to listen to anything.
I want to clarify that when I started reading about iodine I felt as if God was guiding me to this info and my confirmation to that and maybe the best I got from Dr. B's "Iodine" book were Dr. Abraham's words to the effect he himself felt guided by God through this project.
Please know that your post has helped me restore my faith and I'm sincerely very happy to know that you're thriving. I think I've just been having some very awful days and feeling lost not knowing what's really going on, if iodine is working for me or not. I'm very interested in what you said about your NIS been destroyed. Since I'm just supplementing on my own I've wondered "what if" I'm not absorbing the iodine or if it's really hurting my thyroid after all as lately my hypo symptoms are at their worst. I started out formal supplementation in April and even though I did it slowly I had a very scary reaction with intense palpitations, pressure on my chest, etc. so I had to back off. Then I got Celtic salt and magnesium chloride oil and began taking the C and selenium and was able to increase steadily until I reached 75 mg. a couple of weeks ago.
However, I got a virus about a month ago, the 2nd in about 2 months, which puzzled me because I had not had a cold or anything in years. By then I was taking almost 50 mg. so I thought iodine should actually help my immune system. I was also in the middle of a 35 day PC so I would've expected progress instead of regression but I have been feeling totally awful ever since and the past week has been the worst. So I don't know if it's been the virus which further affected my thyroid or the 75 mg. was too much. Just in case I scaled back to 50 (and yest. did only 25 due to forgetfulness and not wanting to take the last 25 at bedtime) but it has made no difference so far. I've even gained a couple more pounds and look every bit as bad as I feel, face very puffy - not "me" at all - and only pray I'll feel better before I travel because it's going to be a very stressful trip as it is. So, if you don't mind I will contact you privately as maybe you can help me find out if there is any "iodine doctor" here in S. FL or if maybe I can have a phone consultation with one, as at this point I feel it would be wise for me to get some guidance.

You are welcome. That is my goal. To let others know that there is hope and treatment other than thyroidectomies, RAI and Synthroid. I was literally dying and the doctors were taking me there while lining their pockets from all the radiation treatments. My last round - the 2 pills I took cost over $6,000!!!!
