I too prefer to take vitamin supplements with food. Never took them without food actually, since I am under the impression that they perform better with food.
But, about your question. Yes, that is essentially what I am saying. Baking soda is essentially what Alka-Seltzer is made of.
I just remembered that that thread I mentioned about buffering Vitamin C was because the gram amount of Vitamin C being taken was upsetting their tummy.
I just don't know if Vitamin B can survive it. Seems like it would, but I can't say positively one way or the other.
