Starting day one

Today is my first day of my water fast. I need to refresh and revive my body and mind by doing this. It has been a hectic 5 weeks for me mentally due to not seeing my boyfriend since he lives about 45 minutes away. Our love is still very new and I am very insecure about various things. I know that I have a lot of faults and I can never shake the feeling that it is those things that will drive him away.
I need to focus on the things around me. Cleanse my body and my mind. I have been praying but almost like my heart is only half way into it. Any other time I have fasted in the past, my mind has cleared of the muddling thoughts of worry, my body felt fresh and new as well as I was able to extend my fast habits into the other parts of my life by directing my energy to various things.
I want to clear the path way to God. These are my goals for my two week fast
1. Open up my prayer life regarding:
a. my finances
b. my love
c. family and friends
d. Keeping positive and fighting my depression
2. Detox my body
a. clear my sinuses
b. clear up my skin
c. more energy
d. more focus
3. Lose weight
a. lose the fat from my stomache
b. find a healthier way to eat on a tight buget!
(Eating health is very hard when you can't afford the good food that my body craves. I would rather have fresh fruits and veggies, but I can't afford them on my budget)
4. Read my bible more
a. In the morning
b. In the night
5. Go to church regularly again
a. Either Saturday or Sunday
6. Focus on unfinished goals
a. working on my novel
b. working on my craft projects
c. cleaning out my spare bedroom
I know the first day is a bit easy for me. It is the second and third days that really cause me to fall with trying to achieve this goal. I just need to stay focused and my mind full of prayer during this time. God knows that I need help especially regarding my heart. I care so much yet I know that my heart is the one thing that makes me "me"
God may this fast strengthen my body, revive what is in me, and make me a more complete person. May this fast bring You glory, O'Lord and it not so much be about myself and my selfish ways.

Au contrare, my fellow God-believing friend!
When you fast, you will discover that those fresh fruits and veggies will be all that you crave. When you finish your fast, you will also discover that it takes very little to satisfy your hunger!
I can now eat a few small pieces of ($4.00 EACH! yikes) fresh pineapple for breakfast (one pineapple lasts almost a full week that way) and it satifies me ALL MORNING LONG! Yay me!
I can eat a salad for lunch, with homemade (Bragg) dressing, and it satisfies me ALL AFTERNOON LONG!
And
the same for supper, or sometimes including a very small piece of meat (size of my fist, but most of the time it's even smaller) and THAT satisfies me all evening!
I USED TO BE A BINGE EATER! And I'm 50 years old!
God is great. AND, by following His "still small voice" - He has never failed me.
Never.
He WILL ensure that you have enough $ to pay for the fresh food.
Trust me on this
What makes us hungry all the time, is the DEAD food we eat. We're actually hungry because we're NOT getting all the nutrition from dead food. So, our body seeks out more and more food choices in an effort to find the nutrition it craves.
By eating (that expensive) fresh food, you will find that your body will actually exist QUITE WELL, on QUITE A BIT LESS food than you ever thought possible.
Yes, my friend, God is GREAT!

You are right about those things. I guess that I wasn't very clear when I wrote that post. I guess what I was talking about is that it gets expensive for me because I juice my veggies and fruits as well after my fast. As well as I get caught up in typical eating on the run like so many other people, grabbing what I can which seems better then not eating anything at all. I guess I will just have to force myself to refrain from eating those horrible things that cause my body to go wonky.
I feel so great after going off a fast and say that I am going to eat better then I have been. I like to fast a bit to balance out the chemicals in my body so that I am free of my depression.
I need to be around people that eat better. I eat well but my friends eat alot of fast food and junk and when I am around them at meal time. Guess what? I am tempted to eat the same type of foods they do.
I just need to get past the 3 day mark and I will be fine and it will be easier for me to focus on how I will be eating and living after my fast.

This is a reply to # 867,658You're welcome...and I DO understand where you're coming from. I live in "fast-food" land (don't we all) and a Fazoli's Italian restaurant opened when I did my very first fast about seven years ago. (I, too, have a hard time "being good" when around others who are eating things I know I shouldn't.)
This was before I learned that I was gluten-intolerant (gluten is the protein found in wheat, rye, and barley) and shouldn't eat that stuff. Well, I broke my fast with Fettucini Alfredo, ate the whole thing, and thought I was going to DIE! I never felt so plugged-up, full, disgusting, and filled with pain in my life!
It felt like somebody opened up my stomach, set a heavy BRICK in there, and sewed it back shut.
It was awful.
But, a very good lesson to learn! For sure.
Here's something else that might help. Of course you can't say anything to your friends...but look at their eyes, their lives, and listen to them.
Do their eyes have dark circles? Do they complain a lot about being tired? Being sick often? These things can actually help YOU to "stay on course"!

I am driven to the fast food light literally because I work two jobs and trying to get something to eat between them both can be very hard at times. Packing lunch is good, but just doing that can be very hectic at times.
I have been very good at breaking my fasts correctly and without too much food. It is after my body has gotten used to have food again that I am tempted to fall back in to have a burger here and there because it won't hurt and then I end up eating more and more because it is quick and tempoaryly tasty to me.
I have looked at my friend's life styles and how they eat and what they eat. It is fully of starch (sometimes potatoes and macroni and cheese - both at one meal)very little veggies because no one likes them or eats them and mostly food processed and packaged and boxed -like chicken nuggets, fish sticks, preformed and cooked meats like family sized salibury steaks with gravy.
My problem is that my body doesn't process or break down dairy produces very well so the more I eat the worse I feel. I can't smell, I feel gummed up and sluggish most of the time - yet I love my cheese. Cheese with everything if possible. Sour cream with my potatoes, my chips, my salsa, etc. And not to mention milk. I love milk so I try so very hard to stay away from those things after any fast, but it is so very hard.
I am going to try to stay on track after this fast. No cheese. . . I hope, I pray, but I will miss it so much!Advertisement
