I am on day 33 of the MC. I am (of course) thinking about how to eat when I go back to eating. Thinking and thinking and thinking. This is my 3rd cleanse so I know about breaking the fast etc. (However, can someone remind me about how long I should break the fast for after 40 days?)
I KNOW I will eliminate flour and sugar. That's first off. But thinking beyond that...I get confused. I want simple rules otherwise I won't stick with anything. I am leaning toward a Atkins like diet (note I did not say Atkins exclusively). I believe I need something along the lines of the Carbohydrates addict's diet (although that is one book I haven't looked at yet).
I admire people who are vegans and raw food diet folks, but I don't think I would hack that. I think where I got into big trouble with my eating was eating sugary floury foods. I grew up eating meat and chicken etc..It is alright to exist on meat protein plus a good compliment of vegtables and fruits?

This is a reply to # 861,049My first and foremost recomendation to anyone is to get a juicer and start juicing veggies everyday. It is the most efficient way to get some mega nutrition in a readlily assimilable natural from form and you also be getting lots of live enzymes which are the cornerstone of health. The second is supplementing with healthy fats EFA. Hemp oil has the proper balance/ratio of Omega 6s & 3s.
The biggest problem with meat is all the garbage the antibiotics growth hormones etc etc that you are getting. The FDA will allow an animal with a tumor to be graded A and on and on. You body will just not process and eliminate meat like it does with vegetable matter. A lot of it just stays in your system and putrefies. Then you have the ethical factor watch a couple of the videos here http://www.goveg.com/factoryFarming.asp That'll make you "think" a little. I'm not being fanatical here these are just facts. At worst you should cut down drastically on your meat consuption and when you do eat it get the range free grass feed hormone free stuff.
Atkins is simply not a "healthy diet". Do a little research. If you juice daily and supplement with Hemp oil you cover a lot of nutritional bases right there that will allow you a little more slack while you experiment and find your own groove.
On the longer fast like a 40 dayer you should take a good while I would say no less that 10 days to really ease into regular eating. It is always prudent to go though a round of probiotics after any fast more so on the longer ones for me it's not a real great concern since I drink kefir on a daily basis anyways. Other folks round here have mentioned some good probiotics that they like maybe they'll chime in with the brand names.

1/4 red beet
a pinkes stem bunch worth of cillantro or parsley ( tastewise I like cilantro)
one or 2 Granny Smith apples
occasinally a bit of ginger
Fairly recently I read that in order for the body to use beta carrotene it needs fats so I
add a tlbsp or 2 of hemp oil

This is a reply to # 861,172pepe, you da bomb for hanging out on the forum and helping people like me. I confess I doubt that I will be able to look at anything about killing animals...I know, I know..then, how can I eat them.
Well, anyway, I have taken all you have said to heart and I have a couple other questions:
What type juicer is best?
Is hemp oil something that is easily found or will I have to order it online? Is there any other oil you recommend
if hemp oil is too difficult to find.
I will search the archives for the probiotics recommendation. If I don't find one I will ask on a separate thread.

One of the oldest juicers around is the Champion. It is a serious workhorse with few moving parts and it's just about indestructible. I had to replace a part and found out that mine was built around 1959!! and that sumbitch is still cranking. It's got a massive motor that just goes and goes. Since they've been around a while you'll find quite a few of them used on Ebay Czech it out.
Up untill fairly recent because or archaic FDA laws Hemp oil was hard to find and when you did find it it was very expensive. I used Flax oil for a number of years but Flax doen't have that ideal Om6 to Om3 ratio. Now hemp oil can be found at most health food stores and it's cheaper that the flax. Start with at least 2 tblsp a day and if you make my juice recipe put it in there. I find it quite tasty.
On Probiotics you can just do Kefir and that you can find at the regular grocery stores now. I get mine from the HFS cause I get organic

I am completely disgusted at what I saw. I had to stop watching several times just to gather my composure. I was in tears, literally.
I don't see how I'll ever be able to eat another meat product ever again. I've always wanted to become a vegetarian for my own personal health reasons. Knowing how horrible the animals are treated for human consumption has convinced me to do it not only myself, but for the animals. I am so thankful that you posted this link. It has changed me, for certain.

For anyone tettering between whether becoming a vegetarion or not, watching those vids will certainly make a person "think" and reconsider. I was like you the first time I saw them and just would hafta turn away on some parts.
I think it should be required viewing for every meat eater out there.

This is a reply to # 861,553This is my third cleanse. The first cleanse I ended properly and when I was done with several days of orange juice and soup. I started the body for life program that uses plenty of protein shakes. I don't know if this is an individual thing or what but I felt that the protein drinks bound me up (made me constipated) ..so be careful if you consider this. The better idea is probably all fresh foods for awhile after the cleanse.
Others may disagree (I happen to really love protein drinks but I am going to steer clear of them this time for awhile at least).- Re: Rocky.... Rocky Colorado

This is a reply to # 861,573Protein powder drinks are also tough on you liver and I hafta go with Daisy on the part about them binding you up. If you ever do the protein drinks make sure you stay really well hydrated cuase that stuff can become like a plaster inside you.
