Has anyone else noticed having bad dreams since supplementing with selenium? I just put 2+2 together. I hardly ever have bad dreams but I have been having horrible ones for weeks now. About the same time I started taking the selenium. My husband warned me to be careful because it can become a neuro toxin if taken in to too large of amounts. MoreThis is a reply to # 854,861You are right San, I should know better too but I was trying to follow protocol with iodine. But since I'm not taking Lugol's anymore perhaps I don't need it with the detoxified iodine. Since there is no protocol for this type of iodine, I'm not real sure what to do.
It was just something strange that I noticed since I'm a "sweet dreams" type of person. I had a bottle of Selenium 200 mcg by Nature's Valley, that I was hoping to use up. Perhaps I should pitch it. I wish I liked Brazil Nuts. :( 48124- One thing we ALWAYS have to remember... unyquity

This is a reply to # 854,872...is that all the supplemental protocols were (basically) designed & set up by allopathic MD's - and all that implies (for possible good AND for possible bad).
The research & cures they have brought to light IS astounding...but although they have/offer/suggest ALL kinds of information about phenonemal loads of poisons & heavy metals being released (which they has measured and documented countless times), I have read virtually nothing (by Abraham, Flechas, Brownstein et al) that suggests one should support their organs of elimination. And they seem to never say ANYTHING about the quality or type of supplements that should be utilized.
Remember CAM (Complementary/Alternative Medicine) is a phrased coined by allopathic medicine (NOT holistic healers). The word "complementary" is VERY significant, and these protocols MD's utilize are designed to COMPLEMENT allopathic medicine. (Similar to the ole...here's your first round of chemo/radiation, and oh yeah, some Vitamin C should help you, and some ginger for the nausea - you can get those at Wal-Mart). They don't even know enough about supplements to know that (generally) over 90% of them are LOADED with toxins, are so weak they're useless, or the herbal ones are so burnt/irradiated/fried/overprocessed, mixed with other unidentifed plants/herbs for filler...as to truly be WORSE than useless. I, too, believe that if there is a natural source for a supplement (that will provide the necessary amount), that should always be preferred/chosen. Brazil nuts are high in selenium, but one can also find it in other foods:

It's frustrating/bad enough that we can no longer get the quantity of Iodine (that the researching MDs have shown/proven our bodies need) by ingesting natural foods, but to add synthetic or tainted supplements on top of that...when the body is having decades of stores poisons dumped into the bloodstream...well, it really is something that seriously needs to be contemplated.
We're out here on our own, folks. We can't truly rely on anybody but ourselves. I've seen/heard of countless NDs shoving massive amounts of supplements into patients with labels & ingredients that are KNOWN to be synthetic and/or based on non-organic/toxic herbs grown/picked/harvested/processed in third world countries...and then doused with pesticides/irradiated (by law) before entering the country. And they MEGAdose patients with these, and call themselves NATURAL doctors at the same time?! For shame. Most of them don't even have a friggin' clue.
We NEED to be careful...it IS a jungle out there!

This is a reply to # 854,893I would like to say. When I was at my weakest point with MS. I went to an Herbalist and she did suggest I take hugh amounts of herbs. I'm thinking that perhaps in some cases in the beginning, it may be worth it to go ahead and up the dose, even if the herbs are not perfect. Getting people to a level of function may help people be able to make better decisions and eat right. I was a basket case when I first saw my herbalist. I was limping, memory loss and so much fatigue, I couldn't even read how to help myself moreless cook something good. Just a thought. 48124

The healing herbs on this planet are strong & vital. There are various levels of overprocessing and toxins/poisons present...and various levels of them being picked at wrong times for their optimal healing benefit, and various blends of 'adulteration'.
The more we learn, and the further our 'total' healing progresses - the better we become at choosing and discerning what IS the best and where to find what we're looking for. It sounds like you hit a decent amount of "pay dirt" right off the bat - that's great!
Many imported herbs are grown using DDT...a known neurotoxin. Many people have experienced worsening of neurological symptoms & disease by taking the very herbs that should have helped them. It's a double/triple whammy :( First, allopathic medicine makes us worse by trying to cover up symptoms with Rx drugs that cause other problems; then we turn/reach out to "natural" healing, only to find (possibly/usually) that the supplements recommended either don't do much or they make us even sicker (hence our 'faith' in natural/holistic healing can be destroyed)...and if we go BACK to allpathic MD, they confirm that - strongly. :(

(Perhaps you already were aware of this list, but it's always good to put in in print again).
The other thing worthy of note? It's VERY easy to create your own tinctures...AND THEY WILL ALWAYS BE SUPERIOR TO ANYTHING SOLD ON ANY MARKET. The tinctures & products that are made for sale, can only be tinctured for the amount of time that's reasonable in order to create some level of profitability. Tinctures (in the "old days") were in the alcohol/vinegar base from new moon to full moon (at the very minimum). Those herbalists that desired a seriously effective healing product, would strain off the tinctured alcohol/vinegar after the 2 weeks, and utilize that fluid to be the alcohol/vinegar solution in a NEW batch of herbs...creating what is known as a double tincture.
There's a sight on the 'net that sells double-tinctures (I don't recall the name). They put powdered/dried non-organic herbs in a coffee filter thingy with a press, run some alcohol through the powder, press it out, collect the 'tincture' (cough), then pour that back through again. The whole process takes around 2-3 hours, and they sell this as "true double tinctured". It makes me sick.
Time is short so I'll say 'ciao for now' (I could 'talk herbs' forever).

I told her all the good stuff, it was used for. She mentioned that I would not be finding myself a man, if I smelled like Garlic~!!!!
Hmmm, garlic or a man?! Well, neither won but I have not done garlic in a while (did continue after her reproach :D) but just kinda weened off it.
Son thinks his mom is crazy for all the 'weird' things she is doing!

Personally, I think the next time I make spaghetti sauce, (I'm still trying to stay meatless, for now) I'm just going to throw some crushed garlic in there. Some of the time, when I feel lazy and get the pre-made stuff, it already has garlic in it anyway. Nobody knows anybody ate garlic because when everybody eats it, nobody smells it!
I'm like you. I have it on the countertop, they saw it, and immediately complained. Geez, Louise!
I miss the days when more people were INTELLIGENT and actually ate stuff like GARLIC! yummy!
Ever had one of those baked whole garlics, til it just got so soft, and then ya use it like a big dip? ummmm yummy
wonder how those are prepared? Some kind of stoneware container...my family'd kill me.

This is a reply to # 856,184To bake a whole garlic just use a little covered stone baking dish, add some olive oil and bake nice and low in the oven. It is so mellow tasting and doesn't seem to have the 'odor' factor after eating it.
Once baked you can eat it as a spread or add it to your favorite dip, sauces or other recipes that call for garlic. Many people just eat it as is!!! Baked Garlic, yum...
