Just wondering if anyone has had success with it. Rolfing is a deep tissue massagealledgedly breaking up connective tissue and allowing the body to reconstitute itself in a more integrated and aligned way. I was thinking of trying out a massage therapist until I ran accross rolfing. My muscles are very tight on my right side and it feels like it the muscles are pulling on my right hip. I have pain in my right hip and leg. All opinions welcome.- Re: Anyone tyied rolfing? ginkgo

This is a reply to # 841,957I tried it. It is very intense but very beneficial. My chiropractor was impressed with the before and after pictures of my posture. I have also gotten postural integration massage therapy. It is slightly less intense than rolfing.
It is better to get the 10 rolfing sessions first which sets certain things right. Then you can get massage therapy on a continual basis which rolfing is not for. - I highly recommend rolfing dreaming ofhawaii

MoreThis is a reply to # 841,957Finding a good rolfer was one of the best things that I ever did. I suffered from numerous muscular problems (frozen shoulder, contracted hip muscle, to name a few). I am totally pain free these days and I still go to the Rolfer for "tune-ups". I run, swim, lift weights, etc. so my muscles take a beating. I also threw away my orthotics and use Nike-Free running shoes. google Ida Rolf or rolfing and read about it. You won't be sorry. The ten sessions are a great starting point. Then a few yearly maintenance sessions and you are good to go. It's expensive, but worth every penny. Aloha, K

This is a reply to # 843,959She has her advanced training and has been rolfing longer than most. She should be excellent. All of those other trainings is where she picks up tips from other experts and hones her skills. Sounds like she has done her homework. Let us know what you think. Give it the entire ten sessions before you make an evaluation. But I was hooked after the first session. I knew rolfing was the missing link that Drs. never provided and my body needed. Aloha, K

This is a reply to # 844,044Did the rolfing hurt when it was performed on you? I was told by another that it was painfull and left bruises on his body. What kind of problems did you have before you had the rolfing done? I do want to do the entire 10 sesions. It does cost $90 each time but if it does work then its worth every penny. Sorry for all the questions but I like to educate myself so I know what to expect.

This is a reply to # 844,086Rolfing should not leave bruises. I always come home and soak in an epsom salt/baking soda bath afterwards. Sometimes it hurts, like if you press on a bruise, but I think it feels like a good hurt. Some people (and cultures) typically can handle a different degree of pain. A good rolfer should adjust their technique to the individual and the amount of pain tolerance they can stand. I like the deep pressure pain; I am impatient. It just means how many layers of fascia tissue they can penetrate at one time.
I had so many injuries I am ashamed to admit it. And all the while I continued running, lifting weights, swimming, ice skating, skiing, etc. I had a contracted hip muscle for over 11 years that had been diagnosed from everything to bursitis, arthritis, neuralgia, etc. I was told it needed operated on and both of my shoulders due to one that froze and the other that was near frozen. That was excrutiatingly painful. I also damaged two lower back nerves during childbirth that they wanted to operate on. And my knees and feet hurt all of the time, thus the countless orthonics. Today I am pain free and have never had an operation. I could kiss the two rolfers that I have had.
I hope you also experience good sessions. It will make you realize how incredibly ignorant Drs. are of the human muscular system. Especially, the back.

This is a reply to # 843,959They do not teach rolfing to someone unless they are already experienced in massage therapy. They only get certified if they do it just right. My rolfer later became a chiropractor.
I never got bruised but some people bruise all the time like with the slightest bump. Yes it hurts but feels good. It is like the stretching pain in yoga. One of my nostrils was not in good shape which I did not even know about. Remember that in hospitals no one ever experiences pain. They experience discomfort. There is no difference in them just like passing away or dropping dead.
One move in postural integration on my neck is more painful on ME than anything else. But it also helped me more than anything else.- Re: I highly recommend rolfing ford
