Our cat has a bacterial sinus unfection. We first tried liquid Antibiotics and squirted them into his throat. He choked and gagged and got the liquid in his lungs so he couldn't breathe out of his mouth or nose for one night. That was too scary so we switched to pills. He hated getting the pills shoved down his throat so much that he developed severe anxiety and wouldn't come near us and refused ot eat. He lost 4 lbs. so we stopped the pills. Slowly he started eating again but he is still underweight. Now, 4 weeks later, the sinus infection is coming back. We are afraid to give him anything and right now are letting him coast, but what if he gets worse and possibly dies? Not sure what to do - any advice?

MoreThis is a reply to # 74,689have you thought about adding the liquid into some soft food or tuna and stir it up a bit? maybe add it to a small amount of milk? or, if you still have the pills, maybe try crushing them up and adding them to tuna, etc. if that doesn't help then just give the cat the pill like you have been and tell him/her to suck it up and deal with it! LOL Just kidding!:):) good luck:)

MoreThis is a reply to # 74,690We've already tried crushing the pills and putting them in food. I guess they taste bad and our cat knows its there and refuses to eat the food then too. I guess what I'm wondering is - Is there anther way to give these meds? Like injection? Or will he be OK to go untreated? Like I said, forcing the pills on him makes him go on a hunger strike and he WILL starve himself to death. He nearly did this a few years ago because he didn't like the food we were giving him. We tried to force him to eat the food and he nearly wasted away. We switched foods and he thrived again. Now we figure if we don't give him the pills at least he will eat. I know this is complicated. Thanks if you have any further advice.

This is a reply to # 74,691We had similar probs with our cat and hiding the crushed pill in liver worked. Not sure whether it was because he goes gaga over liver, or because the liver hid the smell/taste.
We split the crushed bits into several portions and put each in a slit in a small piece of liver, out of sight of the cat.- Re: Have you tried liver? #22345

This is a reply to # 74,692awww, the poor kitty:( well the liver idea sounds like it would be trying. maybe consult with the vet via phone call to see what they suggest and ask if there is a shot form of the anti-biotic that could be used........i'm not sure there is such a thing, just because i've never heard of it before. just be forewarned that if you choose to get injections, your vet may charge you more for it:)

This is a reply to # 74,689and then mix it really well into wet food.
I have an EXTREMELY finicky dog who will eat her way around any pill, even crushed, unless I smash it into a powder. I put the pill between some aluminum foil and then smash it with a hammer. Works like a charm.
