You haven't run into any literal bible people up close and personal? I don't know whether to call you lucky or not.
Oh, I've got family members who are into it. One branch of my mother's family grew up in Texas. (We're New Englanders, for the most part.) It's interesting the way some of the cousins and their children have turned out. Everyone is quite religious/spiritual. But some have a more open view; some believe the bible is literal. It doesn't even follow family lines - with siblings have different view and parents and children having different view.
Then there is one cousin who grew up in the New York City area but converted to some fundamentalist evangelical group and went off as a missionary (not to third world to help improve conditions, strictly to convert people).
There was a family reunion this weekend, and we had a lot of discussion about all this. One mother is just horrified that her son doesn't believe in evolution, etc., etc.). It's rather crazy that religion divides a family so much when one would hope it would bring them together!
