Hello Jill -
Good luck on your quest for health and detox!
There are a lot of opinions on the boards and that is one of the reasons it's a great board.
I agree with Marion.
There is a great book called
Fasting Can Save Your Life this is very thorough. You may want to borrow it from your library while your fasting. Fasting has helped people with numerous diseases from allergies to cancer!
All the research I've done on-line and reading numerous books on
Water Fasting says that the people who should be under supervision are typically people who have a health condition and or are afraid to water fast. I read all I could and prepped myself for a few months I began my fast.
The problem most Americans have is over eating and as a result, there is usually more than enough stores on the body for a fast. (For most of us, like me, it's a lot more than just a little extra weight!) We are all "supersized"!
The biggest "danger" to
Water Fasting is when you break the fast. That MUST be done over a period of time and very slowly. Juices for a few days, then soft fresh foods etc. There have been reports of deaths with people who don't do this process slowly and just start eating, although these are the exception, you get the idea.
One thing to watch for is that your body will go through "healing stages" where it will feel worse or sick for a few day. Many people break the fast there, because they think they need food to feel better, but stick it out! It will pass. It's just the body "re-living" the injuries and or sickness that it went through. Out with the old and in with new.
This is my first water fast. I've done juice fasts, but I really needed to have a full internal makeover. The first few days were a challenge, but it is an amazing freedom from food and the obsession of it all!
Today is day 11 for me. When I started I weighed 197 - thanks to those holiday ten that we all gain. My first week I lost 14.5
lbs. Today I cheated and weighed in because I could tell that I'd lost more and since Tuesday (my normal weigh in day), I've 5 more lbs, for a total of 20 lbs in two weeks. I still can't believe it!
Bigger than that is all the detox going on! My skin looks amazing and is getting softer by the day and I my energy is back too! I actually cleaned my kitchen and organized my cabinets at 8:00 PM last night. Go figure!
Good luck and yes you can do it.
