Good hunch! From what I've read, there is a quite likely connection.
It all starts with the hydration and pH balancing mentioned earlier: when the body is too acidic, your mineral reserves will inevitably be depleted in order to protect and perserve the delicate pH balance of the blood stream, which must be kept constant at all times. (The minerals have a buffering, or neutralizing, effect on acids.)
As a result, a magnesium deficiency can develop, and this deficiency is associated with a host of symptoms -- including both migraines and low back pain. In fact, magnesium deficiency is quite common, actually -- and chocolate cravings are one of the telltale signs!
Google "magnesium deficiency" and "magnesium deficiency" symptoms and you'll be amazed!
[For what it's worth, even though I'm working on alkalizing, I also supplement regularly with magnesium now, just to be on the safe side, since I have historically had problems with both back pain and migraines. If a migraine hits (I haven't had one since I started supplementing with magnesium), Migracin is what I used to use.]
