I have watched my dad go thru PTSD due to his time in vietnam. He learned that it was each breath at a time. Sometimes, when things are at the worst that's all you can do. He used music, classical for him, to sooth him when things were at their worst. He still does. He'd listen to something calming and just let himself get lost in the sensations. I've often thought that it was spiritual for him.

On the other side, I have Depression with the anxiety that tags along with it. I have learned thatit helps to stop the thoughts (negative thoughts) that come up. For me it's been helpful to tell myself whats the current truth. Often it is that I am capable of handling a situation or the reasons I have nothing to fear (at the moment). It's been hard to do, but I'm gaining ground! There are times where I don't get the anxiety attacks at all. And other times where I think the positive before the negative.

I know this is wearying, but just keep struggling forward. Remind yourself that you have come very far and congratulat yourself on the ground you've covered. Just as my dad has found out, there is a light at the end of the ptsd tunnel. Things to brighten up and those dreams/flashbacks do stop. The Depression eventually lifts and life become much easier. I guess it come down to believing that you are a survivor, which you are!! God Bless!!

I am also a survivor of PTSD. I was in a head on car collision (on the highway, 50 mph into 65mph) almost eight years ago. I have been doing soooo much struggling - just to survive. They did not expect me to live. I was smashed head to toe, with coma for three weeks.
I finally found the thing that has brought me back into my body. PTSD is VERY serious. Have you heard about Biofeedback? My doctor, a Neurologist, finally prescribed it for me. It has pretty much given me... my life back. Now, I will never be the same, and I don't want to be the same. I have learned so much about what to value, and not taking health for granted.

I experienced ptsd a few years ago after a head on collision in a car crash.

For two and a half years I had counselling and grug therapy (prozac etc)

Then I was introduced to EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique)

I saw a therapist who gave me a one hour session and then I went home and worked for a further two hours on my issues and I was done.

The therapy itself involves tapping on the major accupuncture points (14 in total) and saying affirmations to suit the cause.

No drugs are involved and it can be done by yourself. In cases of life issues eg child abuse etc or trauma's occurring over a period of years it may be better to see a trained therapist who maybe is also a trained counsellor in order to discover the issues to work with.
