Hello
Unfortunately seem to be going through a constant outbreak for the last 2 months. Its horrible. I was just wondering if anybody has used any of the following products and have they worked:
1) H-balm - im not sure if its making the situation worse?
2) BHT?
3)red marine algae
4)Valtrex(valacyclovir)
5) Acyclovir
or anything that provides a little bit of relief especially for the pain and itching?

MoreThis is a reply to # 372,180valtrex and acyclovir and zovirax work, but I have to take them daily. Some are three time a day pills. I'd like to know about the other treatments too.

MoreThis is a reply to # 372,180Acyclovir has worked well for me. Emergen'C works just as well for me, though. I've tried other forms of vitamin C, but that Alacer stuff rocks. Four to six packets a day for 3-4 days clears me up every time.

Yes, it used to be only available at health food stores, but I see it all of the time in regular grocery stores now.
I would never never say that "this one thing will work for you!" because everyone's bodies are different, but the stuff is inexpensive enough that if it doesn't work for you, it certainly won't break you, and it's just a different form of vitamin C (that has never given me any sort of digestive problems regardless of dose), which is a water soluble vitamin, so there isn't any harm in taking it. It comes in several different flavors, my favorite is tangerine and DBF's favorite is raspberry. I would also suggest using 2 packets to about 8-10 oz. of water, which is less water than they tell you to use in the directions, it tastes MUCH better that way...almost everyone I know does this :)
I've had herpes for 16 years now, and still get OB's when I'm stressed, which happens often. Lysine has helped me, but I hate taking pills. Famvir has also worked well, but you need a scrip and it's hard on the liver. When I start to feel prodrome, I take several packets of the Emergen'C, and about 1/3 the time that wards off an OB altogether, but the OB's always clear up within 2 days.

You can make the ester-c, emergen-c, type of stuff yourself for 1/1000th of the cost. I was buying the boxes for awhile but it gets expensive, especially as vitamin C has a half life of 4 hours so you need to keep taking it throughout the day. Places like Kwan-jai.com recommend 1000 mg's every hour for illness and such things..
puritan.com is a GREAT way to get pure ascorbic acid crystals for CHEAP. They have a 3 for 1 sale right now and they ship internationally as far as I've been told.
3 of the 20 oz bottles is enough for years it seems. I just got a box myself.

One of the factors of how well it is absorbed is the buffering agent, it's pH and such things. That is why places like Kwan-jai.com recommend the baking soda mixture. The sodium bicarbonate buffers the acidic vitamin C powder to the body can absorb it better.
I use this stuff (Bob's red mill), which is non_aluminum. I am not sure if they ship internationally, though. The main thing to ask when inquiring about baking soda is whether or not there is aluminum in it.

The recipe kwan-jai recommends is 1 heaping teaspoon of vitamin c crystals mixed with 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda in an 8 oz glass of water. You can slowly build up to every 4 hours if needed, but I just do it in the morning upon waking and at night before bed.
I also take the bicarbolife pills from alkalife.com in the morning with food and evening. (and L-Lysine of course)
Have you tested your pH yet? Good health food stores should sell the paper. It's a good way to get a general idea of where your body's pH is at.
Everyone is different of course, but in the same light, everyone I have advised (a handful) has had positive results regarding herpes after increasing the pH of their body.

This is a reply to # 372,206I don't know whether the vitamin C crystals are the same...Alacer says theirs is in the form of "mineral ascorbates" and have several different minerals listed in their nutrition information. Perhaps you know whether that makes a difference?
Shouldn't matter, though, I think that what does it is the large amounts of easily absorbed vitamin c. I know that taking it orally or chewing tablets doesn't help me at all, even when I take huge doses. I really really like EmergenC, too :) It tastes very very yummy AND is already measured into little packets that I take with me everywhere.Advertisement

This is a reply to # 372,207http://www.kwan-jai.com sells an ingrediant called "berp" I believe which you mix with the pure ascorbic acid. I hear it is great as it has a bunch of minerals/trace minerals inside.
what you recommended and what I recommended are slightly different. yours is already in ascorbate form, mine is ascorbic acid mixed with baking soda which MAKES ascorbate. ascorbate is absorbed best as it is buffered. taking pure vitamin C, especially for outbreaks is bad news unless you make it into ascorBATE somehow. This is because it is acid, and in my experience, being acidic is part of the problem. so, we obviously do not want to treat it by eating more acid, etc.
Yours has minerals mixed in which is great. My advice recommends getting minerals from some other things, like Sang Whang's "bicarbolife". Truly amazing product! The mineral part of it, in my opinion, is simply alkalinizing the body. minerals=high pH.
The reason I make my own is because it is MUCH CHEAPER. like 1000 times cheaper or more for real. As I take it (at least) twice a day every single day of my life, spending money on those packets would be impossible unless I was a millionaire. hehe.
Anyway, you are on the same track of healing as myself. I haven;t had an OB for a looong time and before I became alkaline and gave up all the acidic crap like coffee, soda, alcohol
For me, boosting the immune system with megadoses of vitamin C and embracing an alkaline lifestyle has "cured" me.

This is a reply to # 372,180I haven't tried any of the above, because after using Virasoothe I no longer have the monthly OB's I was getting! If I do get the dreaded tingle, this magic cream stops it in it's tracks. I'm pretty much free of symptoms now.
I also used to get coldsores, but no matter how run down or stressed I get, I have never had another outbreak after I used Virasoothe the first time. I don't think it gets better than that
