Ana, you are so right.
Before I became health conscious 1 1/2 years ago, my aunt died of cancer. She was always into holistic foods and the holistic life.
A few weeks before her death, she told my sister over the phone- "you know why I got the cancer, Maria?" "It was because of all the pesticides on my fruits and vegetables".
She only rinsed everything with tap water but never washed produce. Also, it's worth noting that
parasites can also cause cancer. Properly washing produce-- and cutting off any moldy or scarred spots off vegetation lessens the likelihood of ingesting
parasite larvea-- such as liver fluke.
Right after I made the decision to eat real whole foods and change my life-- I began using an ALL natural citrus based Produce cleanser. Nothing gets eaten until I wash it with that first. The rest of my family refuses to do this-and finds it annoying.
I couldnt believe the gray water left behind after washing California seedless grapes using the veggie wash. Some in my family dont even bother washing grocery store grapes. If the grapes arent sticky- they'll just pluck them off the vine and pop them into their mouth.
Seeing the grey filmy water left behind after washing them in the veggie wash/water is enough to convince me.
All one has to do is purchase a non-chemical veggie wash such as "Veggie Wash" or other brand-- Many have grapefruit seed extract added.
For loose items like lettuce or berries- just soak in a bowl of water/ and a capful of veggie wash-- and toss around - then rinse using a salad spinner.
You may also add apple cider vinegar to lettuce and water in your sink- and let soak. add some veggie wash also.
