I thought that for some, fruitarianism is the closest to what nature intended, and is also least harmful to living things. Fruit being anything with seeds (right?), it's not the same thing as eating a vegetable, which can't regenerate in the same way. I always thought fruitarianism was borne (in the modern sense, since it's thought by some that that's how we were in the "beginning") not just of the desire to be as close to the earth and our natural selves as possible, but also so that you could avoid unnecessary harm to living things, such as plants, etc.
In my head (I don't know if I've ever even read this), it made lots of sense, because theoretically, you'd eat what fell from the tree, because either it was ready to "die," so you weren't killing it, or possibly that the fruit itself wasn't an essential part of the life of the fruit. Like maybe you were helping it to reproduce, by eating the fruit and scattering the seeds. Like maybe eating the flesh of the fruit was what nature intended, and wasn't actually hurting the fruit. I know in a practical sense that it's not that way, and that we have to pick fruit from the tree before it falls, or none of us would have enough, but in theory, it always made the most sense to me. Even if it's not the case, I still like the notion.
I just wonder about some stuff I've read about major issues with nutrition and
Sugar addiction that fruitarians have. I will post the website when I look it up on my favorites list, but this guy has published some articles/essays on different lifestyles, and basically says moderation is key, and that fruitarianism isn't practical in today's culture. You can't maintain a healthy weight, your blood
Sugar is adversely affected, and other things. Because, according to what he said, even with non-sweet fruits like tomatoes, avocados, and nuts/seeds (but if you're fruitarian for philosophical/moral reasons, could you even eat nuts and seeds?), olives, and all those, you still are eating way too much
Sugar to be healthy. That's what I read anyway.
Trust me, I read about the benefits of fruitarianism and was thrilled by it, because #1-I really want to avoid undue harm to any living creature, and #2-I'd like to be healthy for a change! For a long time I have held fruitarianism up as the ideal lifestyle, but the article made me wonder about it. I still want to try it, but I'm hoping to get some true, real life information from people who've done it or are currently doing it.
It's hard to believe that there are no drawbacks or disclaimers at all, you know? I'd like to know ALL the good and ALL the bad, because it's a huge disappointment when you find that something supposedly perfect (or close to it) is in fact nowhere near it. I try things in earnest, and do it because I believe it will be beneficial, so I like to go in with my eyes open.
Also, I read that you shouldn't mix fruits. You should only eat one kind at a time, and wait a while before eating any other type. Like eating 3 bananas instead of a fruit salad.
I know this should really be in a new thread, but I got carried away. Can anyone offer some information?
