Thank you, Lapis, your story is as inspiring as it is intriguing.
I have been researching sungazing for some weeks now, and after finding the perfect spot (a sandy beach where I can gaze out across the Firth of Forth to where the sun rises from behind two hills) I am now anxious to begin…
I am wondering if it is entirely necessary to follow Hira Ratan Manek’s sun gazing schedule involving ten second increments for as many months as it takes to reach forty-four minutes. It seems regimented and working towards a pre-determined goal rather than relaxed and appreciating each moment. The last thing I want when drawing in energy from the sun is to be holding a stopwatch! I would far prefer to gaze at my own pace, when I feel compelled to do so and for however long I see fit. Suryayog* details sungazing in a way which appeals to me far more than the HRM method:
“Feel the flow of Energy throughout the body. Experience the flow of love energy coming and filling up each and every body parts and all negativities being thrown out through the solar plexes. Feel that each and every cell is charged with the cosmic energy removing all the negativities and toxins and converting all negative to positive. Stay in this position for five to ten minutes. Gradually increase the time period. Our eyes will automatically get used to absorb more and more energy as days pass.”
I am wary of the dangers of over-indulgence, however, but I assume that one will know when it is time to look away and/or meditate when the time comes…?
I read the sungazing forum but most seem to be following, or have followed the standard HRM method which leaves no room for individual perception, hence my interest in finding others who are not so keen on following "rules."
