Maybe I picked the wrong posts to get a sampling of this forum, but it appears to me that this forum is not being used for its stated purpose, which is to be a forum supportive of those who believe in God without religion.
I get the impression it has become a place where religionists are coming to tell everyone why people should be religious. My feeling is that this is not appropriate. It would be like someone who doesn't like fat people going on a "big people's" support forum and telling them why they are wrong to accept themselves and how being thin is the only way. Or did I just not read enough posts? Is this REALLY a support forum for people who believe in God without religion?
I used to try to read the whole Bible cover to cover when I was 11 years old. I was very motivated to do this, but I never made it. God sounded so MEAN and VENGEFUL and HATEFUL in the first books of the Bible that I would literally end every single reading session in grief, crying my eyes out.
One day in church (Southern Baptist) that year the preacher was saying, "And if you" blah blah blah, "then you will go to HELL...!!!" Again I got that familiar feeling of being aghast when it suddenly hit me: "*I* would not want to send people to hell. That makes me sound nicer than God. And that is impossible. I cannot be nicer than God."
That was the day I stopped believing in religion and even scriptures. Yes, scriptures (and not just the Bible, but scriptural texts of Buddhism, Hinduism, Sufism and others) most all have very inspiring and enlightening quotes worthy of contemplating and following again and again.
For instance Jesus Christ's message of love and forgiveness in the New Testament. That inspires and helps me. What does not inspire and help me, I simply dismiss.
It's called separating the wheat from the chaffe.
The sad truth about religion is that it becomes a place of blind faith, posturing and believing "just because it is in the Bible." Why millions of people put so much faith in the deluded illusion that the Bible has never been changed by men who used it to wield more political power and control is beyond me. These are probably the same people who also believe the Homeland Security and giving up our civil rights is a good thing and will protect us.
I apologize. I know this is not true. I listen to Alex Jones a lot (for his political reporting, NOT for his religious views, most of which I do not agree with -- and I don't even agree with a lot of his political views either, but at least he is exposing the FACTS that the mainstream media is so conveniently not telling us).
End of rant and rave...sorry so long...but I mostly just wanted to say that religionists should graciously find another place to post if they are not going to be supportive of this forum -- God without Religion SUPPORT Forum.
