Of course you can loose weight by water fasting.
When people say that
Water Fasting is not a proper way to loose weight, they are referring to majority of people who actually do loose weight by water fasting, but once they start eating again, their digestion becomes much more efficient, and their body becomes much more efficient in storing fats and weight for the future, that with the same amount and kind of food that they have eaten before the water fast, after the
Water Fast they can gain double as much weight.
So, if you are going to continue eating the same kind and the same amount of food after your water fast, you can be pretty sure that you are going to gain double as much weight from what you actually lost during the fast. In that case, the best you can do is stop fasting. You do not want to be even bigger the 1st of January 2018.
Those who are successful at keeping their weight off after the long water fast, are those people who were ready to make a serious change in their diet and eating habits. Exercise alone isn't going to cut it for most of obese people.
Here is a very short list of 4 groups of foods that make most people gain weight:

Sugar added to food (including corn syrup and artificial sweeteners)
- industrially processed foods, packaged foods, ready made foods, dessers, chocolates, barrs etc
- foods made with wheat flour or other grains flour
- foods made with milk products, cheese and butter
If you are able to learn to live without those 4 groups of foods, you will be successful at keeping your weight down, even if you are unable to exercise every day.
Be it vegan, or vegetarian or paleo or keto diet or macrobiotic diet or low carb diet ... those diets help loose weight.
If you do not make any changes to your original diet, the diet that resulted in you becoming overweight, several month after the
Water Fast you will become even bigger! Do not even doubt it!
Just exercise a few times a week will only open your appetites for high energy foods like sugar, brad, pizza, cheese, chocolates, etc, but this time your body will be double as effective in converting those foods to fets and storing it around your muscles and organs.
