40 to 60 Day Water Fast

I plan on completing a 40 to 60 day water fast. I have embarked on shorter fasts previously, with a maximum of 21 days. I have enough fat reserves to last me through to 60 days. I am interested in learning about what percentage of the anticipated weight loss will be from fat metabolization, as opposed to water loss. I feel it is best to enjoy the process and not try to get into details, that probably Science will have difficult time to measure.
Fat decomposition generates also water by that process - so the two are connected. Concerning water retaining/diluting toxins - it is lost most in the first few days. Everything depends on the level of toxicity.
Also important to note is that equally important to the fat as fuel are the other nutrients that the body was supposed to store through good diet. You may run out of the latter faster than the former.

This is a reply to # 2,310,242Agree with DL, totally. I would like add, 60 days is impossible on water only fast. I would plan one day at a time, and build up. It is always good to have a subliminal realistic goal, but not mull over, simply staying in the process with the acceptance that your body may ask you to stop at some point.
I have had quite a few fasts where I had to stop in a day or to into the fast. It just did not feel right.
Nutrient reserves are very important, otherwise you will go in starvation mode despite of having good fat reserves.
Expect to lose 1lb per day, initially it may be 2 lb per day with water weight.
If you have not started, eat raw plant based foods for a month and then start a fast.

Makes sense. I plan to take it one day at a time, but on the other hand, it's also prudent to set a long-term goal as a slight motivator...

This is a reply to # 2,310,332i have personally been with people who have completed 40 days on water only... start there and see where it goes... you can always do 40 days then a raw vegan diet for a month and 40 more days... we have to learn hoe to eat.. not eating is easy

This is a reply to # 2,310,365it was at a fasting retreat... I saw 3 people do 40 days on water. none were obese at the start.
at the end one had legs the size of my arms... TOTALLY emancipated. He was in his 20's spend the last 20 days of his fast in meditation all day... he was soooo skinny... it was awful. He recovered quite quickly tho... 6 months later I saw pics of him and he was all filled out. The second man also looked way too skinny. the 3rd was a female who looked ok. She started out overweight tho.. the men did not.
Yes I am back... Came home today. 3 days post surgery... they said it was really fast. Guess my juicing is working. Plenty of pain and discomfort, but its time for rest and healing. Thanks for asking. When I get the results from pathology I will let you know

This is my concern: I'm not obese. But I have quite a bit of fat on my body and would like to see it off. I've researched that the body enters into a state of ketosis after all other immediate sources of energy (unused carbohydrates, glycogen in the liver, etc.) have been depleted - a state which may take a few days to enter into. Were these mentioned individuals significantly overweight, or at the very least, had a significant body fat percentage (I would classify this at 30% and 35% for males and females, respectively)? I realize even with these stats, 40 days (much less 60) might be a stretch.- Re: fat vs other nutrients rawrnr

This is a reply to # 2,310,574the two men were not 30%... they became emancipated.. the woman may have been around 30-35%.. she looked good.... if you go on youtube I am sure people have logged in thier 40 day Water Fast - you can always turn it into a juice fast after day 40.... people on YT have 100day juice fast vids there

This is a reply to # 2,310,771The word you want is emaciated, not "emancipated," which has a completely differently meaning. If people really want to use fasting for weight loss, they need to lose probably 8-10 pounds below their goal weight because they'll put that back on easily with just water and food almost immediately if they are not careful.

Yes, please do let me know pathology data, when available. It would be useful for future fasts.
I have 26% fat, due to not being able to do long aerobic exercise or serious weight training for years now. I look quite slender due to not much muscle mass. This makes me think, fat-wise I can do quite a long fast - maybe at least 30 days, if no electrolyte problems arise. I don't care how I will look at the end, since function and health matter much more, and I have never had problems putting weight, when too skinny.

This is a reply to # 2,310,985if you are concerned about electrolytes just turn it into a juice fast last 10 days... OR have some coconut water 1-2 times a day last 10 days....
OR
How about not fasting so much and starting to lift weights?

I like the coconut suggestion. Weight lifting could be doable only after serious cartilage regeneration and alignment improvement.
I am not concerned for my weight. I look slim. I have cartilage and joint damage - spine and knees - and scoliosis, which make a lot of things painful. Fasting helps. Need to totally avoid processed and cooked, which was hard around family, but progressively easier after I started giving constant feedback on all the bad symptoms coming from the dishes they offer (as in skin reaction, heavy mucus and stronger joint pain).

There is a very old thread on this forum about a woman who went 60 days drinking only water and Crystal Light drinks. She lost the weight she wanted to lose. I recall that people gave her a really hard time about the Crystal Light drinks. Who cares, it was her body. As long as it's non-caloric, you'll lose weight.

This is a reply to # 2,310,242Do you know some of the drugs in Ayurveda can help you lose weight..I have searched about them and a few of the top weight loss industries are using those drugs in their products.. I have found it through a drug finder tool at mynahcare but could not find enough information about them...
