Hi all,
Newbie here again. So my peeling lips started during the latter half of 2015, I'm not sure exactly when it was, but I'll be going to my dentist to check my log because I complained to her about my lips when I went there so I can at least add that to my timeframe (maybe it was the beginning of it?). I only began to notice the whitening and peeling of the lips in the 'ber' months. I used to rub them when it began but I officially stopped rubbing them at Feb 7, 2016 after I read that it will temporarily make it better but actually damage and worsen the lips in the long run. Since then I've been "leaving them alone", not completely though, I apply aloe and clip off the growing skin just to maintain appearances but the skin does regrow and harden so it may as well be EC.
Anyway, attached here are 3 photos that I took after eating. Although I applied aloe, I let them completely dry so I can show the condition.

Before this, my lips were actually peeling horribly yesterday. It was after the gym and I guess the constant lip licking and sweat made them so white but they easily fell off so they look pretty fresh. Also to note, I licked my lips a lot because I thought licking them looks sexy and seductive (lol srs) and I'm pretty sure I bit and peeled them off before BUT they reform properly back then.
My main concerns:
For pic 1, what is the dark spot on the left corner of my mouth? There actually is also on the right but it is not as obvious. I swear there was no dark patch around the ber months of 2015 (when it all began) and Jan 2016. I only noticed it this Feb. Could it be Angular Cheilitis? Vitamin deficiency? Some kind of infection?
For pic 2, no that's not my tongue. That's actually the inner lip, mucosa I think is what you call it. I took it this way so you guys can see the crust and some whitening of the lower lip. I suspect the crusts to get worse again (they do regrow) and whatever normality you see there, I'm also sure some skin will regrow (they fell off during the gym yesterday when I wiped em off)
For pic 3, it is a better pic showing both upper and lower. The upper only began peeling around Jan 2016, but the most noticeable part is the triangle in the middle. If it gets wet it plumps up and gets really white. The other peeling of the upper lip is not as obvious because it is all very small but I suspect it to get worse soon.
Why do I suspect it to get worse soon? Well, when my condition began, it was only the lower lip. I am sure of this because around Nov-Dec 2015 morning, I was rubbing the lower lip off after brushing my teeth and I clearly remember thinking "Thank God it's only the lower lip". Now I have to be careful even with the top lip and I'm worried moreso because of the dark patch of skin that I was talking about in the first pic, I really have no idea what that is and I'm sure I didn't have that in January.
I hope you guys can help or give an idea on whatever it is and what other methods you think I should try. I am now convinced I have EC because if I didn't then I wouldn't be minding my lips all the time, right? I don't know if getting diagnosed is worth a try because I don't have cash for it right now and judging by the posts, most of them are useless or prescibe something that either does nothing or worsens the condition. I'd be glad to share more info if it's all a little confusing (I have not yet fully typed in detail what I have done during the first half of 2015 that may have led to this)

This is a reply to # 2,305,401Your lip photos were what my lips looked like (except the middle part of my upper lip eventually became raw although it started out with hanging skin there like yours). So did you get better or did yours get worse?
I also don't get big yellow crusts like others or at least not that I'm aware of because I clip off any excess that forms. I'll post pics again soon once the condition worsens again, but like others they turn white and soggy after contacting water.
What's your advice for me now? All I'm doing is just maintaing appearance and temporary relief.

Or it could be some form of oral herpes

This is a reply to # 2,305,389I think it's exfoliative chelitits (very very mild) and angular chelitis in the corners of the mouth. I found that I would get angular chelitits when I licked the corners of the mouth a lot. This is easily solved by not persistantly licking the corners of the mouth when you are eating, because once you break through the sensitive skin and bacteria gets in you get those nasty/painful scabs from infection. If this is about as bad as your lips gets then you have a lot to be thankful for. Mine look a lot worse when left alone and the scabs are thicker and run the entire perimeter.

This is a reply to # 2,305,468I honestly have no idea how the dark corners developed because after I developed the peeling lips problem last year, I made sure to stop licking my lips. I just had a test done and results are normal. I'm suspecting this is what people say when doctors are useless in this sense. I'm going to a derm tomorrow but I expect the same.
They get a little worse when the skin overgrows again, especially when they get wet but this is the "best" they can look for now. I don't know what else I can do as it seems to me that if I apply something else it could make things a lot worse.

This is a reply to # 2,305,389Your lips don't look nearly as bad as mine (mine looked similar when I first got it), so you're obviously in the beginning stages of EC.
I don't think aloe vera will heal your lips because I don't remember anyone curing ec with aloe vera. I think you should get some Aquaphor and apply it constantly to your lips. It will stop the scabs from forming. Your lips will feel much better. It's also a great way to manage this condition and since your lips aren't that bad, they will heal much quicker than a lot us here. Don't forcefully remove the hard skin, it's only gonna make it worse in the long run man.- Re: Update plus What you guys thin... FreeAgentNoob

How did yours get worse then?
It's not healing it per se, but it does help with temporary relief, dryness and appearance. I'm still reading about aquaphor because although I know Daniel Miller used it a lot and says has helped him, I also read about instances where their lips did get a lot worse because of it. Trying my best not to pick at them but the triangle on the upper lip is sooo tempting.

This is a reply to # 2,305,622Mine got worse when I kept pulling the skin off and then doing the leave it alone method a year later. That's when my upper lip started peeling.
I've read some people on here actually cured their ec with Aquaphor after a few weeks. Well, when you apply the Aquaphor, the hard skin will turn white and soft. Just gently whipe the white skin off and reapply aqua. Don't let your lips dry out. Apply as many times as you can and eventually the lips will stop building up dead skin. I don't know if this will cure you but it's worth a shot. My lips are still inflamed but the peeling slowed down and I've only been doing this for a few weeks now.

This is a reply to # 2,305,670Interesting, I'll look into it although as usual, it was useless to some and even made others' lips worse. Have you heard of Bepanthen? I heard it's also pretty good. I've also read about improvements from using it, mainly from Ibinns and sargvy. Sadly, I think neither are available in my country's drugstore.
About inflammation, do my lips look inflamed? My peeling cycle has drastically slowed down, but maybe that's because I barely get it wet. Unfortunately I deliberately got it wet this morning to see if it has improved but I still get the white, weird whatever line that is on the middle of the lips.- Re: Update plus What you guys thin... This is a reply to # 2,305,683I think they gave Bepanthen at the drugstore to try a couple years ago. Didn't do anything for me. I actually walked into the store with the yellow crusts on but I covered my mouth with my hand and then showed the lady my lips. She just stared with a frightened look at my lips. That's when I knew she didn't have a clue what to give me haha.
No, your lips don't really look inflamed. Do they feel more thick or bigger than usual?
Yeah, when the skin gets wet, it turns white and comes off easier but you shouldn't remove it unless you're applying a moisturizer.
About Aquaphor, some people are allergic to some of the ingredients in there, however It should be fine for the majority of people.
I first started using Aquaphor when I was still in high school and it seemed to help regrow the new skin but since I could only apply it once at home, by the time I got back home the lips already dried out & the skin teared apart. Now I'm back to trying again by applying every hour or so making sure the skin doesn't dry out.
Here's another one claiming to be cured by aqua.

This is a reply to # 2,305,692I see. I guess whatever works is really individualistic, which honestly is sometimes sad to this day there are still a lot of people looking for their own treatment or cure.
Nope, they've always been that size. The only time they started to get raw and color red was when I was rubbing the lower lips but I don't recall them ballooning up in size, ever.
I'll try looking for both Aquaphor and Bepanthen here in other shops. I hope I can find them.
In the mean time, the aloe is taking its toll because I can clearly see and feel some of the skin regrowing again. :'(- Re: Update plus What you guys thin... Cottonmouth

You're lucky to not have the inflammation because that really sucks man. My inflammation just won't go away :(

That was taken right after wetting my lips and drying a bit so the lighting can see the scab better. The flakiest part to the right on my lower lip that you can see is where the burning tigly sensation is, I'm assuming it is the raw flesh underneath and probably my toothpaste is what caused the burning feeling.
Well I need to order online ASAP then because I'm getting really worried here. Btw the pic is not a representative of how bad mine is, there are days where they get yellowish and flaky but I cut them off asap because I'm not sure if leaving them alone will actually make it better. I generally avoid getting it wet or let food touch it because I noticed they regrow/peel less that way, but when left very dry is also what continues the regrow/peel cycle.
Another thing I forgot to tell you, I finally told my grandmother (since I live with her) about this and she gave me the ointments her derm gave her for some type of problem she has. She gave me Clobetasol and Ketoconazole, both I think are steroids? I'm scared to use them dude. She's contacting said derm but I expect the usual response that people here get. I've heard some people saw initial improvements but I think a lot also made the condition worse. Should I jump the gun or what :/- Re: Update plus What you guys thin... Cottonmouth

This is a reply to # 2,305,875You probably separated the scab from the lips when you brushed your teeth (your lips stretched too much) and the raw skin is burning now. It's the same when you smile or laugh then the skin tears apart. It's not the toothpaste that's causing the burn.
Leaving them alone will make your lips look like Daniel Miller's lips looked like with those big yellow crusts. Don't forcefully pull the skin off, sometimes it can bleed when you're too reckless.
I don't know about those ointments you're mentioning but most people here said to avoid topical steroids. Also, don't bother with the derms. I've been to few of them, they'll recklessly stretch your lips wide open damaging the skin even more, prescribe you a useless ointment & tell you to just "leave it alone" & sometimes they'll have you take a biopsy. I've actually had 2 biopsies taken. Basically what I'm tryna say is, don't waste your time with derms.

Yeah, I figured derms would be pretty useless. Something I actually do plan on doing is getting my vitamin levels checked because the dark corner on the left side of my mouth kind of got worse, and now it kinda hurts when I yawn. I'm assuming it's some form of Angular Cheilitis? Although I swear I never had it until this Feb.
Anyway, I just got home looking for aquaphor all over the place. Unfortunately there really isn't any but I did find an online seller who sells them. Do you mind if I show you the link? I have no idea if it's fishy and I have no idea if there is such a thing as 'fake' Aquaphor. My last plan is to get from Amazon but honestly I have never ordered anything online, ever, which is why I hope this seller is legit. Anyway, which Aquaphor do you guys use? There's the baby one, lip repair, healing ointment and advanced therapy.

This is a reply to # 2,306,031Seems like you have angular cheilitis too. When I do the leave it alone method, the skin on my moustache and around the mouth starts to build up these flakes. (Similar to Daniel Miller's) Since I've used Aquaphor it's gotten better.
Well, the type you should use is the healing ointment Aquaphor. Mine says "soothing skin balm" not sure what the difference is but it works just fine.
