Take it easy boys! Seriously there is way too much arguing that goes on in this forum..its one of the reasons that I rarely post anymore. This place is supposed to be a place of SUPPORT, not a pissing match.
AF can be defined in so many ways, and manifests itself so differently in each case. I know that my AF is different than Wired's, Tena's, Feo's..and so on. But at the end of the day, we still all have AF - a STRESS related illness! We are never going to heal if all we do is argue over who is right, who knows more, who thinks they have it figured out etc. The reality of it is NONE OF US REALLY KNOW SH*T. We have the basics down. The veterans, including myself, have learned how to SOMEWHAT manage it but are still stumbling along with an illness that not even the best medical professionals can fully understand at this point.
Now about diet....this is something that I personally have a lot of experience with, and I am going to say that both of you are right. When my AF was at its worst I could not handle carbs or sugar, but the mistake that I made was going zero carb. The body needs carbs, this is true, but only enough of what you can personally handle at that stage in your healing. For a long time I could hardly tolerate any carbs. Now I eat a higher carb diet and it has made me feel exponentially better. BUT I was at the point in my healing that my body was ready to accept higher amounts of carbs.
All of our blueprints are different. We all have different individual needs. If eating higher carbs makes you feel better than do it! If you feel better on low carb, then stick with that. There's no cookie cutter approach to this.
And as far as fruit goes, I think it is good for you, IF your body handles it ok and in moderation. I don't believe that eating fruit like its going out of style is going to be helpful, just like I don't agree with eating tons of bacon or tons of green vegetables. I have found that moderation and balance really is best, and to never force something on yourself that doesn't work for you even if the whole world says you need it.
I eat an apple every day and I do ok with it, but I don't eat much fruit. I don't believe that the
Sugar or the carbs are as much to blame for fruit exacerbating AF symptoms as is the high water content of it. From all the research I've done, I've learned that with AF, our electrolytes become imbalanced very easily as we already have sodium issues. Too much watery fruits and veggies will throw off this delicate balance even more. I get the bulk of my carbs from grains like rice, millet, and quinoa. The rest of my carbs come from potatoes. I couldn't eat this way a year ago, but now it works for me. I eat some
Sugar now, but I still have weeks that I am sensitive to it. AF is a constant process, requiring constant tweaking. Nothing ever stays the same.
To the OP- your symptoms sound all too familiar, but it is very difficult to say whether or not you have AF. Going to the doctor will probably prove to be a fruitless (no pun intended HA!) effort, but unfortunately it is where we all started. He will likely test your thyroid, but be sure to ask for the lab results as they'll tell you your thyroid is within range, which it very well may be, but if it's on the lower end you will still experience symptoms. It is a good thing to know what you DON'T have, and a doctor will rule everything out. Then when he finds nothing, tells you you're mental and tries to shove antidepressants, sleeping pills, or banzos at you, you'll know you have AF :)
On a final note, all this fighting needs to stop. It's driving experienced posters away because they don't want to deal with Romper Room, And its scaring away new posters who are desperate and looking for some help and support. We were all there once, remember? At one point, curezone was all I had and I was fortunate enough to find a few amazing people here that without them I'd be dead right now. Let's be fair and give the same opportunity to others who are suffering and alone.
Ok, I'm stepping down off my soapbox now :)
