after spending almost $700.00 I have diagnosis, still waiting on saliva test to see degree of AF.
question is do I need to see a dr. to treat this? This guy is costing me an arm and a leg.
also I have some trust issues with him since he wants me to take a supplement that has St. John Wort in it and I am on not only an SSRI but also clonazepam which is anti seizure.
all I have been told is NEVER take St John while on these meds, even the caution on the bottle says not to, yet this Dr. said its fine. Well I am NOT taking it
because I am also in the process of slowly weaning off the clonazepam I am leary of stating any new supplements
I was taking 2gr Vit. C and he wants me to raise it to 6gr a day.
so bottom line is how many of you are treating this on your own, and how many of you continue to see Dr. for it?

This is a reply to # 2,144,676The Clonazepam is a benzodiazapine, and could possibly be the reason why you have AF, or even symptoms that mimic AF. I have been there with valium.
Check out www.benzobuddies.org and see many similar stories. They dont accept AF as an illness on their, despite the fact all their symptoms are AF! :)
Do you have siezures? or is it just for thr anti-anxiety effect.
St Johns Wart targets serotonin receptors, so it is NOT a good idea if you are taking an SSRI, taper the SSRI first before trying St Johns Wart, that is highly irresponsonsible behaviour by that doctor - I imagine he isnt a doctor and what they call a 'natural doctor' ie, no qualifications whatsoever and no pharmacology education? Makes me angry, these people are so dangerous.
Maybe have a think about the meds you are on being a possible cause, but you are probably too weak to taper them now, and might need to build up first with the adrenal vitamin protocols.
Dr Lams books is great, but he is a scaremongerer, so dont get lured in to his scare tactics of working with him (he is VERY expensive). But choose a path, and follow it, it may work, it may not, but you have to give it a good three months till you can make a decision if it is helping or not.
Dont worry too much about the cost, some of us have spend tens of thousands! :)

This is a reply to # 2,144,693I was given the clonazepam for anxiety. had been on Zoloft for years and it seems to have pooped out after having H-pylori and SIBO.
so have gone from 1.25mgs to 1mg to .75mgs
next taper will only be 1-10% cuts, because of w/d
I do believe that part of the AF is from the meds thus the taper.
this Dr. does have several degrees. wouldn't have gone to him otherwise but I feel like its crazy to tell someone to take something when on the bottle itself it says NOT TO!!!!
blood test I was low on cortisol so now I am going to do the saliva test tomorrow and wait to get results from that.
just want to know if I should continue seeking help from the medical field or if I can combat this on my own.

This is a reply to # 2,144,733Yes, the benzo and the SSRI is potentially one of the reasons you ended up down this road, one of our forum members Ring, ended up in the same position after years of Zoloft use...it always brings the question, of what is anxiety ? It sure as hell isnt a lack of 'serotonin' !
I think St Johns Wart is probably a good thing, but be real careful if you are on an SSRI, ive neer heard any 'ND' claim they could be taken together, the literature, even from the natural people say dont do it. The taper is a great idea, but dont go to fast I wish I knew about tapering when my doctor made me cold turkey.
The medical field wont help unfortunately...their drugs will merely mask the problem. However they can be used to help things be a little more comfortable along the way, but remember that they are masking problems that are there, so dont over do it becayse you MAY feel much better on a stronger dose SSRI - they stimulate the adrenals to produce cortisol - one report showed that LExapro, which isnt as stimulating as Zoloft, doubled the cortisol output from the adrenals half an hour after taking it. Its like having cocaine everyday for breakfast! No wonder peeps feel better.
Yes average healoing time, once youve found the right programme for you is 6 months to 2 years, but can go on as long as 6. Its not an overnight transition unfortunately...and cancer can be recovered from quicker than AF, its crazy!- Re: after diagnosis, then what Klauss

This is a reply to # 2,144,759It would be a good idea if a doc could guide you in the beginning. For example, dr lam observed hundreds people with AF. If one had and advanced stage of AF, it would be a good idea to have a doc with established protocol. Not like my local naturopatic docs who say: try this. It's great stuff.
The SSRI are not good according to Dr Peat (raypeat.com). Actually, I had serum serotonin 2 times higher the upper normal level. Did it make me feel good? - Not at all!
To completely recover, it may take longer than 6 months. In just 3 months, if the program is correct, you will feel much-much better.

This is a reply to # 2,144,789I have another question, Can increased Vit C cause gastro upset. He (Dr) wanted me to increase my Vit C from 2gram to 6grams Well just increasing to 3grams gives me a belly ache...so is it the C or just my IBS?

This is a reply to # 2,145,053When starting to use high doses of C, sometimes people do the tolerance test, Lam suggests it...basically it means to keep increasing the dose till you stomach lets go and empties all its contents...maybe you are close to the dose you can tolerate (at the moment)

This is a reply to # 2,145,053Yes, Vit C causes upset stomach. Once you reach your gut tolerance, decrease the amount of Vit C by 1000mg. (i thing Dr. lam suggests this). I had this with Lam's Quantum C(now it has a different name).

This is a reply to # 2,145,053IF you have low cortisol, high dose vit C will lower it further...
That's why Lam mega-doses vit C with people in stages 1,2 AF who usually have high cortisol to help bring it down, get adrenal balance etc..
So jumping from 2 - 6g if you have low cortisol could make you feel even more fatigue, nausea etc.
I went from 1g to 3g and couldn't walk straight, had no balance, and fatigue was even worse than before.
See how you do but i would not jump from 2 - 6g - i would slowly taper up.- Re: after diagnosis, then what nursebetty

This is a reply to # 2,146,666I am tapering off a benzo and know now that the adrenals have been damaged through this. so I am back to only 2grams Vit. C and magnesium at night, all other supplements went out the door.
Have to be very careful with what I take during w/d because you need to know what is w/d and what might be from something else
warning to anyone who has ears to hear;
PLEASE never take a benzo long term if at all possible, it has ruined my life and I have never been sicker in my life because of it.
with Gods mercy and grace I will get off of it and try to have some semblance of my old life back eventually- Re: after diagnosis, then what 155216

Theres also a troll on this forum who will possibly sweep in and abuse you at some point, saying benzos should just be stopped and its all in our heads so just be on the look out for him and ignore all the dangerous ' Liver Flush those benzos away' advice !
