Does anyone know or have experience of sprouting at home? I've been reading about nutritional benefits of broccoli sprouts and it can be sprouted at home. And since i couldn't find any broccoli sprout here i bought the seeds and tried to sprout it for the first time, it failed because of mold. I guess i did something wrong also i use plastic warp. Does using jar and thin cloth sheet to cover it fine enough? I read that you're supposed to rinse it first and soak the seeds for 24 hours put it in room temp. Do i need to use warm water? The next day i rinse and drain it so no water? And have to rise it and drain it twice a day? Should i put it outside or inside?

Using plastic wrap is probably part of the problem.
1 rinse the seeds several times in a jar with a screen secured on top.
2 soak the seeds for 8 hours or so in the jar filled with water.
3 pour out the water and rinse the seeds a few times before leaving them with the screen angled down for drainage. Keep out of direct sunlight in a semi dark cool place.
4 Rinse the jar a few times a day depending on temperature etc. The idea is to keep the seeds moist, clean and drained but not soaked.
5 After the seeds sprout leave them out in the light to develop chlorophyll. Not in direct sunlight but in a room with some ambient light coming in through the windows.
I do it the easy way and use a sprouter instead of a jar. This is the best way. I just us a jar for soaking.

MoreThis is a reply to # 2,037,415I sprout nuts and seeds, chickpeas and beans. As long as it's uncovered, and I change the water, it never molds.

These methods will work below. I just use tap water. I wouldn't use cloth as it doesn't breath as well. The smaller the seeds the shorter time you soak and the less seeds in volume you will need.

i tried sprouting them again only using 3 seeds just in case if im failed again anyway, after soaking them let them dry (using jar +thin cloth, put it inside a shelf) and rinse it only for a very short time once a day. the condition now is: it didnt mold but it didnt grow either so im confused. only 1 of them flake and grow a little white tail but the other 2 dont sprout at all (even didnt get bigger so theyre smaller than the 1 which flake and sprout a little) :( that happened 1-2 days after soaking but till now 2 days after that it hasnt changed (it stops growing :o) . so what should i do :(

This is a reply to # 2,041,725Nobody uses a cloth on the jar. They need good drainage. They need to be kept from drying out but not setting in water after the initial soak.
You need to rinse them a couple times a day to remove enzyme inhibitors. Not all seeds are going to sprout at the same time.
Seeds need to be kept dry, in a dark place, out of extreme temperatures until they are used. Something may be wrong with the seeds. You need organic sprouting seeds.- Re: broccoli sprout kisekishiawase

well they're dry everytime i check them out to rinse them. "They need to be kept from drying" <-means i have to rinse them often?
how can i tell if theres something wrong with the seeds./how to choose.
anyway now 1 of them has completly removed its skin and the tail is longer the other 1 still nothing. the last 1 is flaky. its been more than 1 week.

This is a reply to # 2,036,679Broccoli sprouts need to be rinsed 3 times per day. I rinse them with a little bit of grapefruit seed extract to eliminate mold.
