I'm sorry you have these concerns but, as you state it's good you are on top of your condition in the early stages: most people like me haven't a clue until it's way late in the game. I know I didn't and I probably have dealt with this for 2 decades. Good for you for being so in touch with your body. Also, good for you for taking the time to research prior to starting treatment. I'm NO expert, no no no but, perhaps some of my seeking might help shorten your learning curve. I hate to give too much advice as I could be wrong so, it's up to you to take what you will and leave the rest.
It's rare candida is a stand alone illness: IMHO it's more a symptom of some other underlying issue(s). Other systems are typically a co-factor if not the primary issue. Leaky gut, body pH, liver function, immune system and it's regulators the endocrine systems (adrenal/thyroids) are common in needing support/therapy. There is much cross over between candida and these conditions as far as treatment but, you'd be wise to take some time to research those sooner than later. Took me a year to grasp how they all interplay with my candida so I hope don't scare you.
Haven't any input on diflucan as I have yet to have experience with rx antifungals but, it seems more harmless than the others, like nystatin. Perhaps others with experience will chime in. There are many who have seen remarkable results from rx treatment but, rarely rx treatment alone.
With regards to your plan to "hit it hard" - this could set you up for gnarly die off and resultant frustration. When candida dies-off it releases toxins which cause nasty reactions. This is on top of the mycotoxin load one already has with candida already: the combo is impossible to describe to someone who hasn't experienced it. I'd suggest looking into supporting your liver prior to using antifungals (natural or rx's): supplements like molybdenum and milk thistle as well as h2o are common recommendations. This is also why many believe doing a liver flush prior to treatment is important.
You have a much better conceptual foundation prior to treatment than I did so, good for you but, it's not complete. For instance, you say you know the direct cause - abxs - and haven't had this for years but, how do you know (not that I do either)? But, could the reason the prostate infection required Cipro been a compromised immune system to begin with? This is not an uncommon co-condition with candida.
One reason immune systems are typically compromised prior to someone realizing they have candida is it's no longer just in the GI, as it turns fungal it elongates boring the intestinal wall pores through to being larger to make it into the blood stream. These larger holes are what is called leaky gut. This allows large molecule food particles to enter the blood stream which the body doesn't recognize as food but, rather mounts an immune response to an invader. This taxes the immune system which has a drain like feedback loop on adrenal/thyroids as well as the mycotoxins (myco=fungus) being released taxing the liver, etc.....So, just about everyone who experiences candida has some sort of compromised immune system and resultant pathways issues. The easiest way to explain this is probably: things get out of balance (which abx's certainly cause through disrupting the flora). Such a simple word but, not simple to rebalance since so many body systems are all interconnected: just like a fingernail isn't just a fingernail but, part of the overall body.
There are some good sites which have comprehensive protocols the_candida_diet_forum is about as good as they come and addresses so much of the above, sometimes subtly rather than explaining everything out right. For instance, under their Vits_mins_page it states Iodine and other Minerals If you’re using sea salt without iodine, you should take an iodine supplement. The reason being the adrenal/thyroids need iodine for proper function. There is a forum within CZ on iodine supplementation, as well as adrenal fatigue and thyroid support forums which get into the nitty gritty detail of why I consider the above simple statement to be loaded if one is willing to dive deeper. Their forum is also another good place to share information with other sufferers to supplement CZ.
It also will give you a good idea of what antifungals to use are and how to rotate them since candida can create tolerances to any one AF. IMHO I'd suggest printing out all the pages and reading them carefully, as it is about a 1/2 inch stack of paper loaded with information. It's fantastic you are making a plan BEFORE treatment: that's awesome. Just be flexible and realize there is no way anyone can make a firm timeline ahead of time such as do this for a month, then do that for a month. It all depends on how one's body reacts to treatment. Thus, why they are referred to as "stages" (stage one, stage two, etc.) .... it's a journey, better know that upfront than have built in expectations.
Many thanks for your post as it helps humble me to remembering where I was when first learning of candida. It's been a long journey of many mistakes and failed diet attempts. I might be worse off in some ways but, have learned a great deal in the process of trying to sort it all out with the help of both these forums and lots of daily seeking. I wish you nothing but healing graces.
Blessings.
If I had dilfucan I would take it but, I wouldn't expect it to work any miracles without dietary and lifestyle changes, particulary with only a 7 day supply. This just isn't something a single pill will correct, for any length of time. It also requires a commitment to MASSIVE lifestyle changes to heal....whatever got us here has to be left in the past if any of us are going to heal.
If you encounter die-off you'll learn what it's all about. To each their own.
Apparently, you aren't ready to receive the information you request and which people have taken the time to try to explain to you. Sorry to sound harsh but, when you are ready to receive this it will all make better sense than it does to you presently.
I suggest taking the time to do your own research rather than have people try to educate you at this point in your learning curve. Suggest taking a thorough look at_this_comprehensive_candida_treatment_protocol and PRINTING OUT ALL THE PAGES, READ and LEARN. Much of what we have discussed is contained in this protocol, sometimes very subtly other times more directly and takes time to see one sentence is loaded with information but, it's about as good of a protocol as I have found in approx 6 months of research: there is just too much mis-information on these subjects. Even then I find them somewhat incomplete. If you print out all the pages it comes to a half inch stack of paper, I know as I have printed them out.
Good luck and blessings upon your healing.
I'm not here to argue, nor did I reply to cause conflict. My posting history is opposite of such.
I don't see why I would take offense at being called ignorant and arrogant but, to each their own.
There is a candida_debate_forum if you want to debate.
Wish you well along your journey.
