Some studies have shown trying to eliminate all sugars from the diet can cause candida to go more fungal producing more damaging enzymes/inflammation. Went I went on a diet of all fat/protein with some veggie juice( no sugar) my gut seemed to get more and more inflammed by the month due to candida producing more and more damaging protease/lipase enzymes outside of its cells.
One study showed that by just having a little sugar(glucose) with each meal can help prevent candida from going too pathogenic. Even though-- excess candida whether in its yeast or fungal form can be damaging. But the fungal form seems to cause more gut inflammation/ pain. The yeast form seems to cause more head fog/disorientation. Whats interesting is that if I eat just a piece of meat by itself my gut will start to feel inflammed. But as soon as I add some sugar to the meal the gut inflammation goes away. This is telling me that the Candida senses the sugar(what it is mainly designed for) and starts to leave the meat more alone and goes after its more attractive food source--sugar. Excess complex starches can give me more issues in the colon...Buts that my case. Candida's ability to adapt just downright sucks...especially with those of us that lack the flora to keep it in check.
For some people that have severe pathogenic fungal candida completly avoiding sugar might not be the best idea. Just been my experience. Others might vary with their experience according to their own situation.
