Have you tried the methylated form of folic acid? They are finding that many people cannot convert it properly and need the 5-MTHF form of it. The top symptoms of being deficient are depression, insomnia, brain fog, memory loss, joint pain, gi problems, headaches and anxiety.
A great article about this just came out in the FIRST for Women magazine (Aug. 20, 2012 issue)...on stands now. Here is another article about it:

An even better article here:

The brand that I use is:

I'm not sure what brand is best, but they mention several also in the FIRST for Women article.
I wonder how many people out here on adrenal fatigue have this problem that is not allowing them to get better sooner!
After reading this magazine article I'm going to up my dosage (I was only taking 400 mcg per day, and sometimes missing days), as they say that without enough of this active folate, toxins build up because you don't produce enough glutathione without it and you're body can't rid itself of toxins properly and they build up, so they suggest a higher dosage initially (3 to 7 mg)to release the built-up toxins, but you want to ramp it up slowly because you can have symptoms as the buildup of toxins gets released. However, with this new type that I am taking (Quatrefolic, the fourth generation of advanced folate supplements; patented Quatrefolic is the glucosamine salt of 5-methyltetrahydrofolate (5-MTHF)) I may not need or want to take those larger doses.
Hope this helps - it's supposed to work quite quickly. You can read testamonials about it here:
