Kentucky Belle
My story in a nutshell is that I began having noticable issues a year ago. The tingling and numbness got so bad one Friday night, that my husband took me to the ER. they immediantly thought "stroke" and admitted me. Eventually, because of a couple of tiny lesions that an MRI showed on my brain, I got a "not quite sure but may be Multiple Sclerosis", see ya in a year.
A year later when symptoms hadn't subsided, I went for another MRI, another tiny lesion had appeared and also my left eye briefly dialates before the pupil shrinks when exposed to a bright light. They still aren't 100% on the diagnosis but have no other explanation. I thought that surely they would know more than I. I'm the right age, mid-30's and female. I made the decision to start treatment for MS and am awaiting my first shipment.
Tonight I decided to research to see if the med will cause me to gain weight. A saw a few responses that the woman felt it was their IUD as opposed to the medicine. I got my IUD (Merena) in Nov of 09'. I then looked up Merena and weight gain, you know what I ended up finding about that. Finally a reason that I am 50
pounds heavier than the day that I had it put in!!! I thought I had been losing my mind over that and was going through early meno-pause. One thing led to another and a woman posted a link to this sight. In looking back, all of my terrible syptoms started within months of having this thing put in and have only gotten worse.
Is even possible that all of it could be related to the Merena? Can you get silicone poisoning from this tiny device the way you do breast implants?!? I'm so confused and may be only grasping at straws but if it isn't MS I will cry tears of joy...and be pissed at the makers of this device. Another question is if Merena can cause MS, since I have NO family history? I do have Hashimoto's Disease, not that they really matters.
Thanks for your time, and I am so glad that I found this site.
