I use an herbal plant iodine form a source that I trust. I'm not sure whether Hv makes an herbal combination containing plant iodine but if he does, I may well try it.
Yes, my Thyroid Tonic:

It is not designed just for iodine, but also to increase cAMP for proper iodine uptake, T4 to T3 conversion, adrenal support since the adrenals affect the thyroid, accessory nutrients, etc. As I have always said there are many causes of hypothyroidism. Iodine does not address all form and too much can aggravate some thyroid conditions. It is important to support the thyroid and related parts of the glandular system rather than simply throwing iodine at the problem. Otherwise you are just asking for other problems.
I would say that there is no safe dose of the chemical Iodine that has the word "poison" on the label.
I've recently responded on another forum, to two people who posted about the negative side effects that they had after taking Lugol's iodine. And that's only in the past few days. Who knows how many other people like that are out there?
Yes, I have seen several examples on the iodine debate forums recently.
What would be the best way to get a small, safe dosage of iodine? How much iodine is really the proper dose?
Seaweeds are some of the safest and best sources of iodine. Seaweeds not only contain iodine, but also the other nutrients the body requires for proper utilization of the iodine except a cAMP stimulator to enhance iodine uptake.
What is a safe dose of iodine is not the same for everyone. Doses of iodine for example that are safe for a healthy individual has been shown to aggravate Hashimoto's thyroidosis. Iodine can also aggravate hyperthyroidism.
There are also other factors such as binding of iodine to starches, ability of cells to uptake iodine, etc. But it would be more difficult to get excess iodine from seaweeds compared to a toxic chemical compound like Lugol's iodine. And again, the other nutrients in seaweeds help in the proper utilization of iodine.
I know you said the safe dose of iodine is not the same for everyone, but as I am taking dulse, I would like to know what you think is a safe dose for dulse for the "average healthy person". Like, I'm currently taking one heaping teaspoon of dulse a day. Is that too much, too little or just enough for an average healthy person? I just want to know if I'm in the right ballpark.
Thanks a lot!
