Ok...I'm cunfused about ALA and high copper. I found the following post, which seems to be from Andy Culter, which seems to indicate no ALA while copper is high.

If the copper is over 50 you have to consider the potential of copper
toxicity, which means no ALA for a while.
However, this is from Ann-Louise Gittlemans book
One of the most effective supplements I’ve found for helping individuals recover from copper overload is alpha lipoic acid.
If you have a moderate to severe case of copper overload and suspect sluggish liver function, try boosting your sulfur reserves with a daily dose of 50 to 150 milligrams of alpha lipoic acid,
This opinion by Cutler is a mistake. ALA detoxes the liver, enhances bile flow and binds to free copper in the blood stream, so why should this create copper toxicity ? In fact: A sluggish liver is the root cause for copper toxicity and ALA helps the liver.
Cutler thinks that ALA makes copper toxicity because he observes the rise of copper in hair mineral analysis, but this rise is very welcome because it indicates that copper is leaving storage sites.
So in my opinion there is no problem in taking ALA in copper toxicity but be aware that ALA will also mobilize mercury and chelates it. Some individums are not able to tolerate even 1mg of ALA because of mercury.
"There have been a few reports in Japan of a rare condition called insulin autoimmune syndrome in people using alpha lipoic acid.[citation needed][51] The condition causes hypoglycemia and antibodies directed against the body's own insulin without previous insulin therapy."
