>>"So I know this is definitely off-topic, but I consider people in this forum to be very smart and helpful. Basically it is common for athletes to wear down their knees. I need to play sports either on hardwood or on grass and even still have painful knees and can't do the training Id like to. Is there any way I can reverse this?"<<
I have no idea of your personal occupational, chemical exposure, medical history, current state of health, lifestyle habits, etc... nothing.
And I certainly have no idea about your current dietary and lifestyle habits other than your *need* to play sports, so I may deduce that you are at least somewhat physically active, exercise, and get a fair amount of sun on your skin.
So, a few items are out of the way... as #1 - exercise, and adequate sun exposure on bare skin - assuming you are not wearing sun screen.
2. Get adequate rest and quality sleep...
3. Drink water free from chlorine, fluoride and other contaminants/pollutants.
4. Be sure to eat
Genetically-Modified-Organisms free (NON-GMO) and if at all possible Organic or Certified Naturally Grown (CNG) which is free of pesticides. I would also try to go as local as possible with all your foods.
5. Be sure to eat anti-inflammatory foods during the day and avoid inflammatory foods of all kinds. Note that your sensitivity to these things may be different than someone else... I can feel my knees ache some when I eat grains so I avoid grains as much as possible.
6. Ensure that you have good healthy digestive system and elimination habits. If these are out of whack, you will have issues with inflammation.
A variety of supplements may help... but first, if you eat meats, be sure that they are 100% organic, free range and 100% grass fed in the case of grazing animals - grain finished animals are going to be more inflammatory because most are grain fed the last 30 - 90 days and in just 30 days of grain feeding the entire nutritional, fat and protein profile of the meat changes. Consume the gristle and cartilage of the animal. Simmer the bones to make bone broths to drink warm, and use in cooking soups and sauces.
Supplements that may help include MSM - sulfur is extremely important and the sulfur cycle was broken when man started using chemical fertilizers. Others are gelatin and pectin. Pectin is easy enough to get from the fruit you eat as long as it is organic and you eat the skins. Citrus pectin in the rinds can be consumed in a variety of recipes... look them up.
My number one *supplement*, which can be had by fermenting and culturing your own foods and raw, organic, 100% grass fed dairy is probiotics, HSOs and SBOs.
Microflora manufactures all manner of nutritional substances, including vitamins B12 and K, Quinones like CoQ10, enzymes,
Antibiotics that do not kill off beneficial microflora... etc. Recent research shows that they stimulate stem cell growth and proliferation too.
Anything that you take that makes your hair, finger and toenails grow faster and stronger will also help your joints.
Read my *R* posts filtered out from all post made under *grzbear*. When I came to these boards I was in very bad shape... literally was being referred to a doctor, by another doctor, to check out possible liver cancer, and was in the process of considering double knee replacements because I would literally cry at times going down a single step.
I never went to the doctor for those things... I got motivated, determined to live and find ways to improve my condition on my own. No doctor suggested the route I took, and I wish they had before my first knee surgery... things would have been different. Perhaps you will have the opportunity that I did not.
Regardless... I passed my 3rd Dan test last year in Tang Soo Do so I suspect, I have been doing some things right.
These things that I suggest may take lifestyle changes as you shift your priorities... they will also take patience, perseverance, and hard work on your part, including many hours in the kitchen... however, you probably have a pretty good idea that you want to avoid the alternative so get motivated and just do it
