Getting off the coffee and diet soda (or -ahem- any kind of soda) is a very good start. If you kick those, you will begin to hydrate yourself properly. Many times, headaches are the result of being systemically dehydrated.
( and of course, headaches = liver/gallbladder, and meds affect the liver in a bad way.
Wanna be inspired by Big Change? listen to Dave.
He got off several meds, lost a huge amount of weight, reversed diseases, literally saved his life...

he didn't do a water fast, I don't think. But he juiced and stopped all meat, etc. All cooked food. You might not want to go that far. (raw) But raw, organic vegan IS a great way for sick people to get well.
In Natural Hygiene, (which promotes water fasting as one practice) it's all about being a "nutritarian". That is, high-density nutrients. Eating to live, not living to eat. Plant-based meals. Fruit and vegetables... less is more.
There is a huge protein myth out there: the body actually recycles its protein, and there is lots of protein in plant-based foods. Normally, we (in the west) get too MUCH protein. I'll let Chris address the issue of the meds and a water fast. You may have to work up to a water fast.
Anyway, welcome to a new way of living...One step at a time. Just in time for a new moon, too!

.."you will need to supplement with iodine for a while to regulate your thyroid so it can function correctly; only then would I personally undergo a water-only-fast to repair any structural impairments."
It would be well for others to consider this, also. Iodine deficiency is rampant. Depending on where you are currently located on the line of
SICK----------------------------------WELL
for many people a preparation period of remineralizing would be ideal, before thinking of a water fast. One's mineral reserves are (largely)what determines the course of a water fast, and how much actual healing can occur vs. simple 'house-cleaning'. The 'house-cleaning water fast' can be a bit of a grind for people, and many will quit soon into it when the feelings are as of toxins re-circulating. Not pleasant. But if a person were to stop soda, junk food, coffee, and add in more fresh salads, smoothies, fresh juice, or a lot of high-density green leafy veg. like kale and so on, AND/OR introduce a daily drink of blackstrap molasses and lemon or apple cider vinegar mixed into a glass of water, along with some kelp ( I've just taken the plain bulk powder of Laminaria Digitata, a spoonful with a bit of BSM to "wet it", and then chased with the drink) one could begin to rapidly build up some reserves. Again,
most people are deficient--even those who've taken supplements: these people are most often not assimilating much.
it's so important to realize, it is not what we take in,( when we are thinking of what is "good"), but what the body can assimilate. One thing the water fast excels at, is working on the factors that contribute to assimilation.
But again, it is best to start with some mineral reserves--and of the natural kind. I like to make green soups and sauces, with raw blended kale, chard, cilantro, parsley; that sort of base, to which you add some olive oil, lemon, tamari, garlic, green onions--and then eat this as a pesto on brown rice, or as a soup with diced avocado (if craving "fat").... This is a great way to get some good minerals into the body. And the taste begins to really grow on you. Add some whole (minus the peel) blended orange to the mix, and you have something really delicious. After a few water fasts, the closer you eat to truly Natural and Whole, and Simple, you can hear the cells applauding, and feel the inner smile.
