I'm hoping for some feedback please. I am a 46 year old female who has struggled with constipation as long as I can remember. It's been an on again, off again problem - but right now it is as bad as it's ever been.
Here's what I have tried so far:
- Stool softeners daily (Colace)
- Probiotics (i.e. Acidophilus caplets, Phillips Colon Health, etc.) daily
- Miralax - my GI doctor has me on 6-7 doses per day
- Amitiza - GI doctor prescribed last week, but makes me very sick to my stomach even when taken with food
- Senna supplements
I have tried virtually ever "natural" remedy I can think of and/or have read about. I eat prunes every day, lots of fruits and veggies, whole grains (oatmeal with flax, etc.) and I drink about a gallon of water every day.
Since January, I have lost 57
pounds (intentionally!) and before that, I used to eat junk food and fast food as my "regular" diet. Literally, eating fast food twice per day. When I was eating that way, I would have no trouble moving my bowels 1-2 times per day. Now that I am eating healthier and have lost all this weight, I cannot have a bowel movement without assistance and I rarely move more than once per week. I recently went almost 3 weeks with no BM.
I am ready to try darn near anything. I spoke to someone who does acupuncture who thinks maybe that might (??) help but I am somewhat doubtful. I just cannot STAND this awful bloated feeling all the time.
Does anyone have ANY ideas or can relate to what I'm going thru - please?? Thank you.
