I was not being critical of judgemental and I apologise if the words didn't come across properly.
My reaction to flushing has been mostly emotional retracing except in the later stages, 20 plus flushes, when I started to get some physical reaction.
The point I was attempting to make, rather clumsily, is: was to do with the function of the liver. Removing the debris from the biliary ducts by flushing causes a liver, with healthy tissue, to detox quickly which is more likely to cause herxheimer. A liver with scarring in the canaliculi which are the cells that filter the blood may slow detox and avoid herxheimer until they start to function better.
Cocaine appears to be directly liver toxic, similar to nicotinic acid and ecstasy. However, over-the counter laxatives containing oxyphenisation and even health shop product like vitamin A, germander, chaparral leaf, comfrey, and jin bu huan, can have the same effect.
Cholestasis is a condition caused by interruption in the excretion of bile. The birth control pill and a list of other drugs as long as your arm (including amitriptyline) can cause this. When source of the condition is removed and the liver detoxed the problem is solved.
Your cocktail of drugs is no worse than people like me who have taken morphine and amitriptyline to control pain for years. Consequently you should be no worse than the rest of us so don't be put off by your past.
It's alcohol that is the big liver killer because it directly damages the cells that filter the blood and although they get repaired they become scarred. The cell debris also blocks the microscopic bile ducts.
