Thanks for the info Tizona..I would definetly have to cover it to keep the birds away. My husband started cracking it and feeding it to the calves, and for the first time ever, we have a whole bunch of big doves that have taken up residency. They must be enjoying the wheat so much, they forgot to fly south for the winter :)

In the stuff I gave the links for above geni1, it also says that if you will first put them in a glass jar, and cover them with water and get them started sprouting first, and then plant them..you'll have better luck growing the grass too.

Another thing..I also read that when you sprout it in a glass jar, the water that comes off of it has nutrients in it, and you should use it for soups etc. And, I also read where one of the armies (Napoleans or someone's), drank the water off of sprouted barley for their energy.

I've been thinking about getting a wheat grass juicer..I didn't know if the hand crank ones (cheaper than electric) would work good or not. Actually..hand crank would be better if I'm thinking in the "survivalist" mode :)

BTW geni1, the horseradish root that I planted never did grow. I'll try again this spring. But, I'm still enjoying sauerkraut..I even bought several more crocks this Fall. Thank goodness all 200 heads of cabbages that my husband started in the greenhouse, did NOT live :(

Speaking of the green in the toilet (Tizona), we've been trying a green drink that has chlorophyll, fulvic acid, and silica in it..it mixes up dark green, and comes out dark green. I've been adding my powdered supplements to it, and the idea is to sip on it all day for better hydration, and to help move toxins out of the cells. We mostly started trying it because my son started selling it. It's Liv International Green 2-0

It might be something good to mix some wheat grass juice into, and it would hide the taste until I got used to it. It comes either flavored with spearmint oil, or lemon oil.

Hmm, thanks for getting me started thinking about this again geni1! Because, it's pretty lazy to have all this wheat on hand, and not at least try growing it and making wheat grass juice. I have plenty of outside soil to plant a patch in too.
