25 or more drops of Thyme essential oil went into the half cup of water thrity minutes ago - thought I was dropping Chaga in there and suprise SURPRISE I downed a whole lotta powerful oil. Will this be lethal or what can I expect, or do at this point. Silly me, needs to do something about vision and all these little brown bottles....
That would be a lot of you drank the whole thing. But did you taste the thyme and only drink a portion?
Thyme oil can cause drops in blood pressure, while increasing the strength of heart contractions. It can also cause convulsions and increase respiration. Watch for these symptoms and get to the hospital if you start with any severe symptoms. In the meantime it would be a good idea to lie down and keep your feet raised to maintain blood pressure to the chest and head and stay hydrated. Also focus on slow deep breathing to help with exhalation of the oil and to prevent hyperventilation, which will also drop the blood pressure by reducing carbonic acid levels.
I downed the whole thing! It has been a few hours and I feel no more tired than I already was, but kind of spacey here and there. A change in respiration came almost immediately, but seems to have passed somewhat. I have LOW blood pressure typically, so I will do as you suggest. This helps immensely to know what to expect. It was a stupid mistake, prompting me to pay closer attention in the future.
If you have not had any problems by now you should be fine. Most of the oil would have been exhaled by now.
On a side note, I have gained much from your suggestions about other problems and will update soon about it. I read your forum daily as well as others of interest on CZ - for 5 years now - lurking in the back ground as I sometimes have done. Maybe the THYME big dose will kick the crap out of the never ending scalp thing - over 5 years now, started about the time Menopause happened - possibly hormonal??!!
Possible, hormones do affect skin.
Lately I have been using thyme oil topically with carrier oil trying to solve the itchy crusty scalp that cracks and pops in my ears making me crazy because nothing works!
Could be the skin is too alkaline from the shampoo, or could be an infection. Does this occur in patches? Is it raised or flat? Does it better or worse with the seasons?
With the chronically dry scalp I wonder if maybe you sill have a trace of hypothyroidism. Have you checked your basal body temperature recently?
Otherwise you may want to increase your intake of good fats such as extra virgin olive oil and fish oils.
