150 mg Iodoral for 10 months. If I don't get it I wake up at 2 a.m. wondering where the heck my iodine is. Need it with a bit of SSKI, currently 4 drops of Trapper's (120 mg). My breasts don't hurt and my thyroid works better having enough elemental, but the iodide doesn't seem to be available enough, or gets used, so I need the SSKI in addition. I don't know about that much for a man, and I'm biased towards SSKI with no more than a few milligrams of elemental for men. But that's an uneducated bias based on the fact that Hubby's metabolism gets dragged down by elemental after a few weeks, no matter the form, while he sails along on SSKI. Everybody's different.
Wordiness warning. Sigh.
Yes, 150 mg Iodoral and 120 mg SSKI concurrently. For awhile I took 150 mg Iodoral and 300 mg SSKI concurrently, but that started feeling like too much. I brought the Iodoral down to 125 mg, then 100 mg, but this broke my sleep up, which smoothed out again back at 150 mg. I experimented then with removing the 10 drops SSKI to see if I could handle just 150 mg Iodoral. This was a little scary because three years ago when I first raised my Iodoral to 150 mg without SSKI, I felt the dark pull of my old depression, probably due to detox of old psych meds. No depression this time around, but lacking a little spark. 4 drops SSKI is just enough to counter this.
Hubby needed TMG to take selenomethionine. Before I found this forum, when I had him take 200 mcg selenomethionine, within 48 hours he changed from a gifted engineer into someone who couldn't think straight and became very clumsy. We figured it out quickly and he recovered. Months later, he tried 50 mcg. Same problem. When I read Newport's recommendation of TMG, I was electrified. Hubby takes selenomethionine just fine now. However, when he takes elemental iodine, he gets funny looking. I've spent three decades studying this man's face for problems he can't describe. And funny looking means his brain is fixing not to work and I will be frightened for him to go out alone. Maybe too much oxidation? Don't know. Bless Trapper, I had Hubby try his 2% with magnets and magnascent. Same result. Maybe even a little worse because they both work so fast. But Hubby comes from a long line of hard-core dementia invalids, and at his age of 62, I see no reason to flirt with disaster. SSKI is fabulous!
(she laughs) Um, 10 months on this most-stable version of taking iodine. Probably 10 years ago started painting with tincture of iodine in a desperate attempt to make the stain last longer than 3 hours. Never happened. 8 years ago started Iosol and then a half tablet of Iodoral, developed crushing headaches, and stopped iodine again. 4-1/2 years ago found this forum, learned about detox, and resumed Iodoral with the determination to bust through the headaches and resolve FBD. Success.
