Over the past month I have been posting messages to gather information that could aid me in helping my grandma improve and maybe reduce/eliminate a meningioma her Dr recently found. Right now she is stable, but her body is very weak and recently developed a cough and flu that has lasted now for 2 week.
Can anyone help with suggesting a good mixture of herbs that can help bust the immune system?. I'd like to order a good bunch of herbs that she could take everyday in teas that could help her immune deal with common bacteria or viruses. Please, any suggestion will be like always greatly appreciated
Menigiomas are another example of tumors believed to be caused from viruses. The viruses suspected of causing these tumors are simian virus type 40 (SV40), which 90 million Americans were exposed to through by contaminated vaccines, and Inoue-Melnick virus (IMV). Therefore, antiviral herbs are strongly advised. The best antiviral and immune supporting herbs are chaparral, pau d' arco, andrographis, amla and a little licorice root especially combined.
Hveragerthi,
can i Just mixed all the herbs in any amounts bring to boil/simmer and everyday give them to her? or would tinctures be more efficient at dealing with the virus?
Thanks for you response,
Fran

The herbs are best used as powders, not teas or tinctures. Both teas and tinctures have drawbacks including loss of insoluble compounds and, loss of nutrients by the heat of teas and both can alter the chemistry of some herbs. And chaparral is very resinous, so it does not work well when trying to make teas since the resin will separate in the water sticking to the pan wall. Therefore it is better to blend the herbs and capsule them.
As for the ratios I recommend 3 ounces each of chaparral, pau d' arco and andrographis powders, and one ounce each of the amla and licorice root. Recommended dose is three size 'O' capsules or two size 'OO' capsules three times daily at least 20 minutes before meals.
Instead of the capsules, can the herbs be drank mixed in water w/no heating? Any particular reason they need to be encapsulated. I am not trying to be annoying but I know she does not like pill/capsules and she'll rather have the plain herbs. Also, i buy my herbs from mount rose herbs, but I am wondering if you recommend any other place. They do not have all the herbs I need for the capsules.
best and thanks again,
Fran.

Mainly due to the taste. Andrographis is very bitter, and chaparral is not very pleasant either. So most people will not take it in powder form due to the taste. If she will take the powders straight that is great though. The dosage would be 1/2 teaspoon 3 times daily at least 20 minutes before meals. The bitterness will cause a strong cleansing reaction on the liver so it is also important that she drink a lot of water throughout the day. She may also feel a little flu like for a few days from the detox, but this usually does not last more than two to three days.

Starwest Botanicals is also a good source of herbs and they have all these, except amla, in powder form.

Do you think someone can get super high amounts of vitamin C from herbs?. Or, really the only way to do it is by having the synthetic form?.
Also, www.vitaminc.com does not work.
Thanks for the information,
Fran.
Do you think someone can get super high amounts of vitamin C from herbs?. Or, really the only way to do it is by having the synthetic form?.
It is very easy to meet our vitamin C needs from herbs and foods. Even you get less milligrams of vitamin C from these sources. The reason is that synthetic vitamin C is extremely unstable and readily breaks down in the presence of light, heat or moisture. Most natural sources on the other hand are more stable due to the presence of other antioxidants that protect the vitamin C from oxidation. And natural vitamin C sources also contain synergistic bioflavonoids that give the vitamin C more activity. For example, the vitamin C from amla berry was found to be 12 times stronger than synthetic vitamin C, so less is required. So 100mg of vitamin C from amla would be the equivalent of 1,200mg of synthetic vitamin C.
An exception to the natural C being more stable rule is camu camu, which is rather unstable.
But more is not better. Contrary to popular belief megadosing vitamin C does not provide more benefits. The excess is simply broken down in to irritating and mineral binding oxalic acid, which also increases the risk of kidney stones in some individuals.
Anyway, does anyone know how can I help her relive the headaches with herbs?
It is going to be hard to stop with herbs since the tumor is going to be compressing nerves. Reducing the tumor size is what is really needed. Ozone therapy through ear insufflation would be my first choice.
