Hi fellahs, (can ladies be fellahs too? I like that)
the Gandhi lemon water thing floats around the net a lot, without any clear source. (... must say, I loved Ben Kinsley in Gandhi...)You know how something someone reads leads to a lot of posts citing (when you track it)the same hearsay? It's funny, really. :-)I often find my own posts asking some question-->>as the only available answer.
We need to remember how this system works: the whole 'net thing, because often that is the source of something we read. And then we might build a strong sense of community, on the basis of some posts. Community can be great, but it *can* be a mass mind--look at Jim Jones for a weird example.
(By the same token, you can often fel the 'spirit' that's behind a post, and know that it's wholesome, or not so much.)
Too often such things (Jonestown) look like the fringe, but we ourselves build this *machine* of community for good or ill....
I enjoyed that "yoga yak" fasting vlog some time back, and noted that he too, was going on a lot of hearsay. ( and faith!) In the end though, I go back to the old fasting 'masters'. The wonderful, generously given texts you find at the Soil and Health Library. No need to be confused... There's a lot to be said for the wholesome offering of so much good that otherwise most folks wouldn't have access to. And to remain so invisible. The person who does this is so low key. If you decide to use his resource, consider giving a dollar or two to support it...
Here's a post on the lemon water that's interesting--

I think lemon water is superb as a regular (non-fasting) morning 'consitutional', esp. for people with low digestive power. I was told years ago to do this, but not to OVER-do it; something we all forget, so often. what is good can tip the other way, so easily.
When water-only fasting, lemon water would not be agood idea, but then, as Chris B says, G's fasting was (largely)a poliical weapon. I like his diea of fasting form speech once a week.
I've done 29 and 26 day
Water Fasts as an offering to goodness and rejuvinescence, and although one is weakened, it is hardly the 'beast' most of the world thinks it is.(a dn some have used that to their advantage...) And it's true that if you believe in wasting away FOR something, it can happen. (Have also done a few shorter water fasts: like 12, 6, 9 and thereabouts days...can't really recall exactly)
Anyway, these are just a few unasked for thoughts. :-)
*Water only, according to thirst*, is what works very well.
and what the 'old-timers' will usually come by and suggest. Reason being, it is good advice.
All the rest: the do-it-yourself ideas to change up the
Water Fast and maybe "improve" or update it, including certain mind agendas imposed on it -- all this changes the terrain, and then, as they say, all bets are off.
the truth is, the
Water Fast in its pure essence, with sensible care and consideration for this vessel, it can't really be improved upon. repackaged, okay-- and it can seel a slew of books and plans for eating, and all that, but the simplicity itself is not for sale, and can't be hidden. The beauty of it is, it's free. And it's without flaw.
best,
C
