Thanks for the suggestions, spud and IC.
I've now read the whole thread. I'd ask that others follow spud's lead and edit all your posts in that one thread that I gave a link to, wherever you broke TOS. That's not a lot to ask. Then I can take a look and see what posters here think IS acceptable. I don't care who started the attacks, I only care who ends them and that they stop.
There were a lot of extremely derogatory comments and I don't wish to leave them there. I'm even considering editing them out of MY post, once the problem is fixed. There are PLENTY of other examples of how not to behave, in other threads.
I suggest that you flag threads you post in, to receive a message in your inbox when there's a reply in that thread. If there's an inflammatory response days later, you can then easily alert the Moderator.
I prefer a light-handed approach and I agree, to dig through all the old posts would be a bit much and I don't ask that of you, just this one thread.
Please refer to this post for my thoughts. I personally don't have access to an IP check, however I believe you and I'm aware that posters can re-appear with new usernames, dozens of times over and over again.

I agree with this, however I'm not into private messaging. What I'm willing to do, going forward, is to publicly post a link to the post in question when the alert button has been pushed and ask the poster to edit their own post. That puts the problem back into the hands of the one who broke TOS. It also gives them a chance to make their case, publicly, if they feel that they didn't break TOS. You can copy and paste their post and respond to it, if you feel that they may edit out the offending material before the Moderator gets a chance to see it. Everything out in the open, no secrets, and not much work for the Moderator (unless there are lots of alerts).
**edit** I've decided that it'd be far too much work to post links to offensive posts; I'll just click on "hide". I haven't decided yet as to banning, and at what point I'd do it.
If anyone has any other thoughts on this, please share.
Hopefully, going forward, these issues will come up a lot less often.
Please continue to make suggestions for making this small part of our world a better place.
