hi,
another mirena sufferer here. had mine for almost four years but getting it removed next week. didn't connect the dots from my symptoms to the iud until now.
one of the reasons i chose mirena was because it had zero estrogen (which i now know is a big mistake) because i'm sensitive to this hormone. too much gives me constant bloat, breasts constantly sore, curly hair (i know, weird) and some other small side effects (nothing extreme like the mirena).
because i'm not ready to have kids at this time, i'd like to continue with birth control but i'm having a hard time picking out a new one.
however, i've canceled out:
-- ortho tri cyclene lo
-- yaz
-- nuva ring
i did some research and found Loestrin 24 might be a good pick but i'm still unsure.
anyone out there with recommendations, experiences with other forms of birth control?

This is a reply to # 1,709,403I used Loestrin between all of my pregnancies until I had the Mirena. It was the only one I could tolerate because the others made me throw up. After I had my IUD out last fall, my husband had a vasectomy since we were done and I had (and still have) such a horrible hormonal imbalance. So I can't tell you about Loestrin AFTER Mirena, but it worked okay for me for over a decade before.

MoreThis is a reply to # 1,709,403I used Mircette for years before the Mirena, and never had problems until they switched me to generic (causing HUGE problems which took a year off BC to resolve). Unfortunately, Like HappyFamily6, after Mirena I am even more sensitive to hormones than I was before --I used progesterone cream for a few months after removal and it caused terrible side-effects which I am still dealing with.
I am resigned to condoms.
If you do decide to go back to BC, I would love to hear your feedback.
Also -- Birth control turned my hair curly too! Nobody will believe me on this, it's the weirdest thing ever. But since the horrible generic pill, my normally straight hair has turned corkscrew curly. Mirena made it even curlier -- so I don't know if it's an estrogen thing necessarily, more like a hormone imbalance thing.

This is a reply to # 1,709,971Before reading your reply, Mircette was actually in my list of possible BC pill choices because it seems to have a low dose of both progesterone and estrogen -- qualities I'm looking for in a pill.
However, after doing a lot of research, I've discovered that Mircette is a "third generation" bc pill. And apparently, according to the research, third generation bc pills are being questioned because of their side effects -- blood clots that can cause pulmonary embolisms. Really scary to read that so I'm kind of back to square one again with finding a new bc option.
I'm fairly healthy and am not a smoker, so maybe I don't have to worry so much about the blood clot risk? I will definitely be asking my Dr about the risks of taking third generation pills, along with the rest of the pills out there, but has anyone else heard this about Mircette or other pills with this type of progesterone?
