14 days now. One of my little milestones :).
After feeling good in days 4-8, i was a bit weaker in day 9 and 10 but in days 11-14 i have felt good again... however as before i am still saddled with the normal weakness that accompanies detox... weakness that is easily managed by laying down all day. As such, the fast continues to proceed quite enjoyably and effortlessly. It might be my imagination, but i believe i've been getting a bit stronger each day.
Update since day 8 i have resisted mild thirst and gone 12-30 hours dry each day, mostly about 15-18 and continue to drink about 1-1.5 liters per day to satisfy moderate thirst. Whenever i take a sip of water it is immensely satisfying because i am definately thirsty for it.
Physical hunger has remained consistently at Zero for 11 consecutive days.
Mental/emotional cravings continue to be very mild for the most part, but with a few manageable exceptions.
Starting at 177 pounds, weight is down 22.5 and i estimate about 5.5 pounds of this to be fat loss, about .5-.75 pounds of protein type tissue and about 16.5 pounds of temporary loss consisting predominately of water.
Tongue continues to be lightly coated each morning.
Tomorrow is a day of getting some things done, so i'll see how my strength holds up in the real world outside of my comfortable bed.
How you estimate this ?
Hi Vilang,
I actually revised my estimated fat loss to 5.5 pounds from 4-4.5. First i will say that i acknowledge that this is not a perfect system and that there is a lot of estimating involved.. I estimate how many calories my body is likely burning (bmr/basal metabolic rate) and that about 90% of those calories are coming from stored fat... and take into the account that the metabolism at the start of the fast is likely to be about 25% higher than it is today.
If my average bmr over these past 12 days out of the 14 has been 2000, that would mean 1800 calories per day have been coming from stored fat which is 1/2 pound per day for the 12 days out of 14 (as the first 2 days were primarily carb burning days). This would put me at 6 pounds of fat... However i believe my average bmr with a metabolism slowing to preserve my reserves has been slightly less than 2000, my best guess being about 1900, so that puts me at about 5.5 pounds of fat.
Another aspect of my confidence is based on lots of post fast experiences watching my body add a pound per day for 15 or 20 days when i was eating extremely lightly, far below the number of calories it would take to add that much fat as it would take 3600 excess calories per day to accomplish this and i was eating at or below my estimated bmr which would equate to zero fat gain.
And how we loose mostly water if we drink water all the time?
The simple truth of it is that most of us when fasting eliminate a lot more water than we take in... through urine, sweat and evaporation. We lose a lot of sodium in a fast, especially in the first week and sodium which holds water takes this water with it. I was down 16.5 pounds in the first 7 days and lost only 6 pounds over the following 7 days. These first 7 days were days my body was eliminating a lot of sodium (and taking a lot of water with it). When we begin to eat again and regain our normal sodium levels through the natural sodium in vegetables and fruits, we also regain our normal water levels.
Hello there , Mighty !
Congrats on your 2 weeks ! You make it sound really easy, LOL
Hope all is well and you are getting enough rest to accomodate your healing body
Ups and downs or just ups ?
Be good,
Vidda
Hi Vidda and thank you :),
Yes it has been easy for me but only because i have been able to lay down for 23 hours most days to accomodate the ever-present detox weakness. Days 1-3 and 9-10 were harder than the others, so we could say those days were "downs", but nothing too bad.
Today i am getting some things done that i've been needing to do and it makes a big difference... not quite as easy as laying down :). If i was having to do this much throughout the fast, it would make for quite a difficult and uncomfortable experience... and to make it even worse, this activity level would inhibit optimal cleansing and healing.
Thank you for your support and kind words :).
It does make me feel better to know that there is some internal detox going onin my body, even though,it was not occuring in the best fasting conditions ...And, I can see overall health improvement , so I am just doing the best I can in my situation...
Yes absolutely. Only recently have i been able to fast resting in this way and i received a lot of benefits over the years by working and otherwise being active through my fasts including a lot of brisk walking (until i recently became convinced that the long duration brisk walking was slowing the detox).
If I remember correctly, you are in for a long run..did you mention completion?
Completion is always my hope, though it's not the easiest of goals. In my past two fasts i entered them open-ended and decided somewhere along the way in each of them that if i reached 30 days before completion i would likely stop there. In the first fast completion was reached at 29 days and 16 hours and i fought my way to 30 which was possibly the most immensely difficult things i have ever done... and in the 2nd 30 days was reached without completion. In this fast i am thinking similarly... hoping for completion, but likely to stop at 30 days if completion is not reached. Even still it is open ended as i won't stop in the middle of a healing crisis and also if i am feeling great i might wish to continue further.
How is your heart? I know you will make it brand new after this fast ...
I'm not sure how my heart is but it feels comfortable and i do believe it is improving little by little as it did in my previous fast. I really messed it up and it very much seems to be an immense job for my fasting body to heal. Heart rate has remained quite consistent throughout the fast... about 66 upon awakening and later in the day it is about 60, both being "laying down" rates. My blood pressure which was never impacted by my injury has averaged about 90/73 each morning. I don't know how much difference this would make, but this is taken sitting.
wish you 100 % success, Vidda
Thank you again Vidda, i appreciate all you do to encourage me and others :).
Thank you Kozz :),
My next milestone is 15 days (halfway point to 30) and is 9 hours away, then 20, 21 (7x3 among other reasons), 25 and 30 :). Another milestone... if i believe it is in my best interest to continue when the time comes... would be 31 days, something i've never done before. I find having these mini-goals along the way helps to keep my morale up : ).
Congrats on your 7 days :).
