Hello there lip community. Ididnt know this condition had a name until my doctor told me. Any way yes i had peeling lips yes they turned white with contact with water yes i had white gunk. yada yada yada.......... heres the point my dermatologist send me to the dentist which i was scared of because of my lips but screw it i had nothing to lose so i went.
it was the worst thing ever the hot assistant was looking at me crazy once the dentist told me to open wide and my lips started craking and you saw all my fordyce spots. the dentist said yuck your mouth is rotten
i told him she i have a lip condition he said no you dont
you have swollen gums gingivities to the 10th power thats why your lips are crcking and red.
so the hygentist there gives me a good scaling cleaning
the dentist gives me a prescription for a mouth rinse called PERIOGARD no generic thats the brand name.
i gargle with this for 2 weeks and apply only fish oil natures bounty omega 3 1000mg brand capsules i break them and put it on my lips when feeling dry night time mornings
any way 2 weeks go by my gums arent inflammed and my lips stop peeling i use the fish oil when i go to sleep only and mornings but only cause im paranoid it might come back now no it is not the fish oil i always used this oil and never gotten results its more likely the combo of healed gums and moisterizer.
any way i know yall are scared to go to the dentist cause of embarassment but you know what living with this is more embarrasing.
no they dont peel, yes i can drink water no they dont turn white when water hits them yada yada yada ..............
what part of normal dont you get peace

This is a reply to # 1,566,659thanks, i've asked on this forum before about bleeding gums and others have also had theories about the gums. to those that tried the acidophilus same brand as badlips, that brand had folic acid in it. Folic acid is used to stop gingivitis, look it up. Good mouth health(good bacteria in mouth) will prevent gingivitis. I can tell the way you typed that you've had EC, so this is very good post.

This is a reply to # 1,566,764You got a dentist who could give you advice. My dentists always said "I don't know. Cut down on the pop since that dehydrates your lips."
Did you have any raw skin on upper lip? I think maybe swishing acidophilus (the one with folic acid in it) in mouth helps gingivitis (bad bacteria in mouth which may contribute to peeling lips). But the raw, triangular area on upper lip (that got mushy white all the time-probably from fordyce spots leaking) needed to be dried out in order to heal. The acidophilus liquid was a good way to dry that area so it could form a scab. Did you have any raw areas that needed to form a scab? Did the fish oil help to dry the raw area to form a scab? - Re: thecureisme uklad

Peeling, dry lips can be the symptoms of many diseases, just becuase someone has peeling lips it doesn't mean ec.
EC is unexplainable, most on here don't no why they got it......
There is a difference and I think this gets lots of this forum. I mean google EC and you get f8cking HIV/AIDS. You don't get people saying ooo yes I think I'll get an aids test.- Re: thecureisme rargh

Actually yes, I get bleeding gums almost every time I brush my teeth. I was assuming it was because of hard brushing and haven't given it much thought. This could very well be the cause of mine!

This is a reply to # 1,566,659My dentist has seen swollen gums on me once in the past, nothing horrible. This was because i over flossed right before I went there. My cheilitis is noted in my record & they mention it everytime I go to the dentist, every 6 months. They dont seem to have any experience with it. Only the kind with peeling of the corners of mouth.
They say my oral hygene is great & to keep up with it.They gave me a new toothbrush, floss & some chapstick.- Re: thecureisme #68716

This is a reply to # 1,566,921I clean my mouth really well. Although I dealt with EC for 20 years, my gums have not starting hurting until the past couple years. The only reason the dentist said I have gingivitis is that I have a pocket of loose skin in front of a couple teeth. He asked me if I grinded my teeth at night since it can cause some bone loss (which causes pocket), and I do grind my teeth at night.
I think my mouth dried out from taking medications that cause dry mouth. So, the dry mouth caused more bad bacteria to form.
Dentists always thought I had good oral hygiene, and one even thought I should be a mouth model in a dental brochure. I think you would need a culture test to see if you have bad bacteria. But I think you can have it without knowing it.- Re: thecureisme ab11747

I had my gums cleaned a few times, but I still had EC. It helps to clean your gums, but I think you need to do more like use the special mouthwashes for this.- Re: thecureisme #95221

This is a reply to # 1,566,950i too got the bleeding gums..but everytime i go to the dentist they just say that i got some of the best teeths they have ever seen. just wondering here...badlips..you are cured, you say..but have to use your liquid Lactobacillus acidophilus everyday..but this is not a Cure then ( as in use it for some time and then its over) but more of a relief..is this liquid that "thecureisme" has been using then more of a REAL cure..just checking.- Re: thecureisme #68716

This is a reply to # 1,567,127Well, I was already taking acidophilus supplements since I abused my body with lots junkfood and medication. The supplements did not help my lips, though. One day I just thought I would see if putting acidophilus liquid directly in my mouth would make a difference.
I was thinking about Antibiotics - how they kill the good bacteria along with the bad bacteria. Acidophilus supplements help bring back good bacteria that was killed by Antibiotics .
If other people's lips do not heal with the acidophilus liquid, I do not know if at least they will experience an improvement in exfoliation process by lips only peeling in single layer instead of thick multiple layers stuck together.

This is a reply to # 1,566,963The pockets around a couple of my teeth are sign of perodontitis, and I also have expensive tooth fillings that I do not want stained. So, I do not know if I could use this mouthwash (according to information below)?
Uses For Periogard
Chlorhexidine is used to treat gingivitis. It helps to reduce the inflammation (redness) and swelling of your gums and to reduce gum bleeding.
Gingivitis is caused by the bacteria that grow in the coating (plaque) that forms on your teeth between tooth brushings. Chlorhexidine destroys the bacteria, thereby preventing the gingivitis from occurring. However, chlorhexidine does not prevent plaque and tartar from forming; proper tooth brushing and flossing are still necessary and important.
Chlorhexidine is available only with your dentist's or medical doctor's prescription.
Other Medical Problems
The presence of other medical problems may affect the use of this medicine. Make sure you tell your doctor if you have any other medical problems, especially:
• Front-tooth fillings (especially those having rough surfaces)—Chlorhexidine may cause staining that, in some cases, may be impossible to remove and may require replacement of the filling
• Gum problems (other)—Use of chlorhexidine may make other gum problems, such as periodontitis, worse.
